Getting started with Place Co-Pilot
Digital Urban
We create detailed 3D models of urban areas and Virtual Reality projects for public engagement.
Here’s what our AI-powered tool can do for you – and how to quickly begin reaping the rewards
What can Place Co-Pilot help with?
It uses AI to interpret YOUR design codes and other aspects of regulation to deliver trusted answers to planning queries
It uses artificial intelligence (AI) to help users quickly and easily interpret your design codes, and other regulatory documents, to deliver trusted answers to planning queries. You simply have to enter your query and it will give you accurate responses. It’s primarily built for developers, to ensure they can rapidly find the answers they’re looking for – and can also help with assuring they adhere to regulations.
It’s AI… how do I know it can be trusted?
Because it uses only the information we give it – such as the design code and any other documentation that’s relevant – meaning you can be certain its answers are all based on correct information. What’s more, the tool shows users where in the design code, or other documentation, it has found the answer – so it’s easy to check.
I’m interested. What are the first steps to working with you on this?
If this sounds like it could be valuable to your local authority, the first thing to do is get in touch. We’ll find out more about your specific challenges and build an understanding of how we can use Place Co-Pilot to help solve them.
What information will we need to share?
Place Co-Pilot uses your design code documentation, and any other information that relates to urban planning in your area, as its source of knowledge. We would simply need a copy of that, and we can get to work.
How would we get started? And how closely would we collaborate?
When we developed the first version of Place Co-Pilot, we worked closely with Surrey County Council?to solve the challenges it has relating to the time required to find answers to relevant queries to its design codes. We built a proof of concept, then collaborated closely with their team to rapidly build a solution that was ready to test with developers. We would follow a similar process with you, but starting from the point where we already have a viable product in place – it would just need to be adapted to suit your specific requirements. That means we could have an initial pilot up and running for you within days.

How would the tool work in practice?
The tool can be ‘white labelled’ for any local authority or other organisation. That means it can be embedded on your website for developers to use. They would simply need to enter their queries in order to obtain rapid and trustworthy answers. If you allow open access, it can also be used by citizens in the community.
What benefits can it bring to my local authority?
The primary benefit is time saved. Instead of countless minutes or hours spent wading through hundreds of pages of documentation, Place Co-Pilot can give clear and trusted answers to users’ queries within seconds. That means time saved for your clients and partners, but also for you and your team, who are less likely to have to field questions from developers, as they’ll be able to find the answers for themselves.
We also anticipate that usage of Place Co-Pilot will lead to greater adherence to design codes and other regulations, thus reducing the risk of legal reviews, planning committee challenges, or other headaches. It also increases the likelihood of better outcomes for your urban environments overall.
This user-friendly, trustworthy tool could also result in enhanced relationships between your local authority and the developers with which it operates.
What benefits can it bring to citizens in the community?
We strongly believe that improved access to information in this way will benefit entire communities by increasing transparency and trust between local authorities, developers and citizens.
