An entrepreneur friend I’ve met in Bali said to me..


“If you want to think THAT way, then neither does building a 7-figure company. Or does it?” - I replied nonchalantly.


“Well, that makes a LOT of sense!”, he snorted back. “There’s benefits such as freedom, power and choices!”


Confused, I rolled back my sleeve and asked: “Do you have 5 minutes?”


After 5 minutes of discussion..


.. my friend was eagerly asking how he can update his workout routine.?


It’s funny.?


It wasn’t so much the reasons why that convinced him to prioritize this aspect of his life..


.. it was more the re-telling of the story he currently tells himself.?


My friend told himself:


  • “I’m busy, so I can’t make time for my health & fitness”
  • “My partner NEEDS to like me the way I am.”
  • “In life you have to choose your battles.”
  • “Health is a necessary sacrifice for wealth.”
  • “I can’t have it all.”


Let’s be clear here:?


  • If you’re busy, you have no time to not work on your health & fitness. The higher the socioeconomic status of a person, the fitter they tend to be. There’s a reason Tony Robbins, the legendary Zig Ziglar, Richard Branson and other highly effective professionals are (or have) never compromised on their fitness schedule.?
  • Your partner does not NEED to do anything. Your partner, like everyone, is guided by self interest. The #1 reason the divorce rate is that high is because MOST people do not come to grips with that fact.?
  • In life, you have to choose your battles. Correct. But going to battle against your own health is at best a Pyrrhic victory.
  • Health is not a necessary sacrifice for wealth. Don’t get me wrong, if you’re ambitious some sleep deprivation now and then is part of the game. So is a high-sodium business dinner. Yet that is at MOST 20% of your life. You can be in extraordinary shape getting the other 80% in control.?

You can’t have it all. But everything you CAN have is built on ONE thing, and one thing only, and that is your health and fitness. If your health is better, so is everything else.
