Getting Rid of Your Stuff After Decades in Your Home

You’ve lived in your home for decades. You’ve raised your children there and now it’s just the two of you rambling around the house. It’s more space than you need, so it’s time to move on to the next phase of your life.
That sounds wonderful, but what do you do with all the things you’ve accumulated in your home over the years?
Here are some tips for seniors looking to downsize:
Get your children involved
Your home is full of memories, not only for you but for your children too. Have your children come over and pick out what they’d like to keep. This gives them the memories to keep and you know your memories are being treasured.
Hold an estate sale
After you’ve decided what you will take with you (and what will fit into your new home), sell the remaining items. There are many local businesses that hold estate sales, so you don’t have to do any work. Plus, you know your things are going to a new home!
Donate or toss
After your estate sale, if there are things that haven’t sold and are usable, consider donating them to a local charity. It’s a great way to help out a non-profit in your community!
For items that a charity may not want, toss them. If you have a lot of ‘stuff’ to toss, you may want to rent a dumpster and get rid of everything all at once.
