Getting ready for the next phase of connected car technology
By 2035, 9 out of 10 vehicles on the road in the US will be fully connected.
Today, that number applies to new vehicles being shipped. By the end of this year, over 70 million new connected cars will be available for purchase worldwide — and we can thank the uptick in EV production for this.??
What does this mean for mobility apps?
Connected cars are now a more significant opportunity than ever before. Beyond integrating with these vehicles, apps that succeed are the ones that prioritize reliability, security, and the consumer experience.
In this newsletter, we're looking at the building blocks that make up a seamless, connected mobility ecosystem. Read about:

Why we need purpose-built solutions to succeed at DERMS
by Sahas Katta , CEO at Smartcar
Some EV integration vendors are approaching the energy market differently by trying to be full-stack solutions that provide both backend integrations and utility-facing software.?
But capturing both ends of the market stretches these vendors too thin, ultimately slowing down innovation in load flexibility.
Many details can easily slip through the cracks — from unreliable integrations to unpolished consumer experiences, inefficient issue resolution, and erratic product roadmaps. You simply can’t integrate with every EV while also trying to partner with utilities and power their unique programs.
The energy ecosystem is most productive when players can prioritize their core competencies and come together to present complete solutions.?
Utilities partner with distributed energy resource management system (DERMS) providers specializing in managing consumer-owned devices. These DERMS providers then partner with platforms like Smartcar for our expertise in standardizing EV integrations at scale.?

?? Collaborate better with team roles and invites
Amazing apps come to life thanks to transparency and communication among developers, product teams, and other stakeholders. We’re excited to announce new collaboration features within the Smartcar dashboard — Smartcar users can now invite team members to their applications and customize access controls based on their roles. You can choose from three roles: Admin, Editor, and Viewer.?
?? Smartcar for Nissan US and Mercedes Europe

We’re also compatible with Nissan’s long-awaited electric SUV, the Ariya! The Ariya, released in late 2022, is the second all-electric vehicle by Nissan since 2010 — and it’s already the highest-selling EV of the two this year.?
On top of our existing compatibility with Mercedes in the US, we’re also excited to announce our compatibility with Mercedes vehicles in Europe! Apps can use our API to connect with the brand’s most popular models this year, like their all-electric EQ series.?

How ANYMOVE built a reliable shared mobility platform with Smartcar
Based in Germany, ANYMOVE is a community of vehicle operators that aim to reduce the number of cars on the road by providing seamless shared mobility experiences. ANYMOVE integrated with Smartcar to build a user-friendly technology platform that gives commuters the flexibility to find an available vehicle wherever they are, whenever they need it.
?? Before using Smartcar, ANYMOVE built its integrations in-house. But maintaining the reliability of these integrations, in addition to maintaining their entire platform as a whole, proved to be challenging.?
ANYMOVE now uses Smartcar to enable remote lock and unlock capabilities and access vehicle telemetry data like location, odometer, fuel level, and state of charge.?
After talking to other rental operators, we saw that Smartcar was the most loved telematics solution because it's simple, fast, and flexible.

How Smartcar Connect helps developers build a better app experience?
Smartcar Connect?is a pre-built user consent flow that enables your application to connect with a compatible vehicle. But beyond giving vehicle owners a simple point of entry to all our compatible vehicles, Smartcar Connect helps businesses deliver a smooth onboarding process that entices users to connect their vehicles to an app.?
How??
??Standardization: Work with clean and modern UI/UX that remains consistent across all 36 of our compatible brands. Smartcar Connect makes user onboarding intuitive regardless of your customer’s vehicle make and model.?
??Customization: Use pre-built features to tailor the onboarding experience instead of having developers build out new changes from scratch. For instance, businesses use our Brand Management features to rearrange vehicle brands on the onboarding screen so users can connect their cars faster.?
