Getting ready for installation in the Atlantic Ocean!
Good morning!
We are proud to share that we have entered the?final stages of the PLOTEC hull construction. Started in Gran Canaria in March of this year at Hidramar Shipyards, Gran Canaria, the project is now moving to its final preparations for the installation in the Atlantic Ocean, where the structure will be tested in a relevant environment. As our Lead Engineer Sam Johnston details in the video below, the crew is completing the final welds on the exterior of the hull. We are also gearing up for the installation phase, with chains having arrived already in Las Palmas. These will soon be attached to the hull for secure deployment, while others are headed to the PLOCAN test site. This pre-installation work will ensure a smooth connection to the vessel once we move forward.
After installation in the Atlantic Ocean, at around three kilometres from the coast, we will begin recording data from the vessel?through a suite of sensors and tracking devices.?These learnings are essential to advance Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) to storm-prone areas, by developing a more resilient and cost-effective structure to power the tropics. Stay tuned for more updates as we progress on OTEC developments!
Our OTEC Activity Book for children is now available in Dhivehi!
We believe every child deserves a fun and engaging way to learn about ocean energy, no matter where they are. That's why we're thrilled to announce that our OTEC Activity Book is now available in Dhivehi! We also offer versions in English,?Portuguese, Spanish, and French, that can be accessed and downloaded?at globalotec.co/otec-for-kids.
And here’s a little spoiler: more languages are coming soon!
