GETTING ON THE PATH TO YOUR DREAMS

There are moments in life that happen that make you realize that you are on the right path no matter how tough things have been. When I got into the business of making TV shows, I did not have a clue. A lot was just trial and error, especially coming from Zambia where the industry is not that developed. Then I heard about the Discop conference where major TV stations from around the world, meet with content producers in Africa to form relationships and buy content. I am talking BIG TV stations, the likes of BBC, Sky News, CNN, ABC, Aljazeera, E! Entertainment, Zeeworld, Fox etc.

Now tickets for this conference and content market are priced at $1,000 plus and I didn't have that kind of money. But here's where the story gets interesting. For years I would pray for a chance to attend Discop. I logged into their website and started the application process, but would log out when it came to the payment part. A month before my mother died, she had asked me what my prayer request was on one of her many trips to the mountain and I told her about wanting to attending Discop. She said she would pray and I shouldn't worry. A few days later I got an email from Discop who had noticed on the system that I had started the application and not completed it. They asked for my contact number and called me up...after figuring out that I didn't have the funds to travel, they got back to me and said they had been following my work on social media and would waive the $1000 fee for me to attend as an invited guest if I could just get myself to Jo'burg. I initially thought it was a joke. But after two or three calls from them, pushing me to accept the invitation (and realizing that the West African on the other end of the phone was not a 419 as i initially thought).

Attending the conference opened my eyes to see that indeed the entire world is waiting to see what Africa has to offer, they want to know our stories and how we live and want us to stand up and be counted in the global community.

Why do I tell these stories? To encourage someone else out there that you really can follow your dreams and do something out of the ordinary. Once you make up your mind and believe....miracles begin to manifest in your life. It all starts with what your belief systems are. Yes, there will always be challenges, but they are there to keep us humble and remind us we are human and still in need of God to guide us and see us through. Just because things seem impossible in the physical, don't limit God. He knows exactly where you should be and when he begins to open doors, no one can shut them and he will surprise you!
