Getting Past Fear and Dread

There are a variety of reasons people overthink: Lack of motivation, fear of failure, fear of success, fear of criticism, poor time management, exhaustion and sometimes, it is just their temperament.

Ultimately, we need to get out of our heads and take action.

  2. Evaluate the facts of the situation
  3. Think for a set time (1 hour. 2 days etc.) about the possible solutions
  4. Act tentatively

Consider a back-up plan

Address fear of failure by developing a growth mindset: Progress not perfection

Address anxiety and dread by developing distress tolerant thoughts.

I am willing.?I am capable.?I can embrace uncertainty.?I am what I do, not my thoughts.?I will keep going.?I can learn from everything, even mistakes.

Manage your time effectively, set microgoals and chunk it. Do whatever it is for 15-30 minutes then take a break if that works for you.

Ask for help. Whether you need practical assistance in completing the task or just a cheerleader or battle buddy, other people can help you take the leap.
