Getting out of debt the fast way

Last week I spoke to three college-educated women in their 30s working corporate jobs.?

Each of these women:?

? Makes about $100,000 per year.?

? Has somewhere between $30,000 to $120,000 in debt – mainly student loans

? Is looking for a way to “tighten” their budget in order to pay off their debt

At face value, that seems like a smart move.?

But it’s missing the bigger opportunity – which is to make more money!?

If you’re 30+, college educated, living in the US, and working a corporate job, it is 100% possible for you to earn $150,000 or more.?

You just have to know where to look and how to position yourself.?

I’m not saying you HAVE to do this.?

I’m simply saying that if you want it, it’s available as an option.?

I’m also not saying that if you aren’t making this amount that there’s something wrong with you.?

In fact, the opposite is true.?

The entire corporate machine is a racket.?

It beats people down, devalues them, and leaves them feeling deflated.?

So it’s no wonder people have stunted ideas about what they’re capable of earning.?

But even with all this self doubt and disillusionment, you can still make $150,000 / year. Here’s how:?

1. Start doing less at your current job?
2. Take the time you save and apply it to:?a. Having fun / relaxing / reconnecting with yourself?b. Building your next career opportunity?
3. Create a spreadsheet with 50 of your best contacts. Call each one (yes it must be a phone call, video call, or in-person meeting).?a. Spend 80% of the conversation reconnecting with them and asking them about their lives.?b. Spend the other 20% sharing where you’re at and what you’re trying to do:?i. Tell them you’re looking for new jobs + a $50,000 increase in your income.?ii. Ask their advice (where you should look, people you should talk to, podcasts you should listen to, etc.)?c. Use the conversations to get increasingly clear on what you want and to learn about opportunities that exist.?
4. Learn something about yourself and/or the market from every conversation. Track the lessons learned in the spreadsheet, and use them to get increasingly clear about what you want, your value, and how to communicate it to other people.?
5. Apply to 100+ jobs online?a. For every job, try to contact someone at the company using cold outreach or warm connections on LinkedIn?b. For each application, send out at least 5 cold-emails / DMs on LinkedIn trying to connect with a real person?c. If/when you speak to someone, go through the same reflective process outlined in step 4 above.?
6. Develop an empowered relationship to the job search process. Let nothing discourage or stop you.?
7. Repeat steps 3, 4, 5, and 6 until you get a job paying you $150,000 or more each year.

The challenge is that most people get way too deflated during the process.?

Or they think I’m exaggerating when I suggest that they need to have 50 one on one conversations with people in their network.?

To be clear. I’m not exaggerating.?

Truly, I don’t entertain discouragement until someone shows me the spreadsheet with 50+ conversations logged + 100 applications submitted + 500 cold outreaches on LinkedIn + Lessons learned from every interaction.?

This may sound extreme BECAUSE IT IS!?

Is it fair that you have to go through this process to land a high paying job? No.?

But do you still have to do it? Yes.?

So let’s make the most of it.?

The trick is to keep going and to keep getting better at showing up for yourself over and over.?

The same qualities you’ll learn to embody from this process are the same qualities that will get you promoted quickly when you land your next role.?

So practice, practice, practice.?

Use every step of the journey to learn and grow.?

You won’t regret it.?
