Getting The Most Out of Your Headshot Session

Here’s how you can really rock your headshot session:

CHOICE OF OUTFITS

First—make sure you have some choices in outfits. If you’re doing the Basic Headshot you get one outfit in front of the camera but if you have a hard time deciding bring a few and we’ll help you select the right one. Of course if you’re doing more than the Basic HeadShot you need plenty of choices.

Are Your Clothes Wrinkled?

Make sure your clothing is ironed and not stuffed into a bag where it’s all wrinkled when removed. We have a steamer for last minute repairs but try to make sure your wardrobe for the most part looks camera ready. 

What to Wear?

Men: we recommend either a suit and tie or open collar dress shirt with a jacket. Avoid those wild patterned neon ties. If you prefer just a shirt/no tie or jacket then a solid color is best. If getting 3/4 shots (beyond the Basic Headshot) then remember dress pants if wearing a suit. Jeans and/or Khakis are okay for a casual look. Men make sure your tie is tied correctly and not wrinkled. Also pay attention to shirt collars—if your shirts are too large or too small it really shows in the portrait.

Women: wear a business suit or nice blouse with a jacket. Solid colors work best; stay away from busy patterns. Watch the cut of the blouse—a low cut blouse can look funny if your portrait is cropped tight for some uses. If being photographed without a jacket then wear 3/4 or full length sleeves. You can bring jewelry but realize that necklaces may get cropped in the final. 

WHAT ABOUT HAIR AND MAKEUP?

Men make sure any facial hair is neatly trimmed. If you get a haircut wait a day or two before scheduling your session. Women—if you color or cut wait a week so that it looks the absolute best. We have professionals that can do your hair—check out the list here.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD YOU BRING?

Combs and brushes are great to give your hair a last minute touchup. We have hair spray but you may prefer to bring your favorite brand. Women bring any makeup you need for a touch up. If you prefer a professional we have a list you can choose from here. Men, we offer clear foundation powder if needed to remove the shine from your face.

While we can straighten ties, collars, wrinkled shirts and even teeth comes at an additional expense. With a little planning you can be good to go and ready to look your absolute best.
