Getting the Most Out of Relationships

I recently completed a leadership course. Towards the end of the workshop, the instructor asked us to go around the room and recognize the contributions each person made to the class. I found the exercise to be simple with some people and challenging for others.
I couldn’t believe it. Of all people, of all things, I had not interacted with a handful of classmates (at all) and I was grasping for words.
Did we not have anything in common? Possibly. Was I avoiding investing in a short-lived relationship? Perhaps.
While making friends comes easily to some people, others struggle. So, how can we develop positive relationships with co-workers and customers?
Here are some ideas to help make connections:
- Be a good listener. To start a conversation, it is important to listen first, especially when you are in a group
- Don't try to change people
- Keep your sense of humor
- State outright that you want to get along
- Radiate positivity
- Give genuine compliments
- Do things for others
As we put a bow on another successful year, let’s keep in mind that quality relationships seem to act as a buffer to the hardships of life.
Have a pleasant weekend!
