Getting the Most out of the Holidays with Effective Time Management

The holidays are a great time to connect with family and friends as well as celebrate our traditions. The end of the year is a time for wrapping things up, whether that’s finalizing next year’s annual plan, or finding gifts for your loved ones! With that being said, most of us are struggling to meet everyday demands so the idea of adding holiday tasks can be an additional stressor.?

The key to reducing stress during the holiday season is to manage your time effectively and set realistic expectations. This can be easier said than done, so here are some time management tips to help you have a more enjoyable holiday season!

Use a calendar to track all upcoming events and commitments.

1.???Develop the habit of looking at your calendar before agreeing to any new commitments.?You may have to respectfully state “Thanks for thinking about me but I am not available”, and that is okay!

2.???Review your calendar at least a week in advance to set yourself up for success and tackle all of your to-do's!

Create a list and check it twice. Write your shopping list, or even trip list, that details the stores you need to go to and the items you need to get. Then stick to it. Don’t get distracted by all the shiny objects! Try to compile a check list of how family or friends can help with any events you may be hosting to divvy up the tasks!

Develop a holiday mantra.?Managing your self-talk can help you stay focused and spend time on what’s important.?Some examples include:

  • “I am making choices that allow me to slow down and enjoy the season.”
  • “I am choosing to make wise financial decisions this season.”
  • “I will honor myself by setting realistic expectations for myself and others.”?

Plan downtime.?Plan time to recharge by doing something that You enjoy. The best gift you can give to family and friends is a happier and more relaxed version of yourself!?

The holiday season can be a busy and stressful time for many of us. However, with some careful planning, you can focus on creating memories and enter the New Year feeling refreshed.?
