Getting the Most From a NetSuite Demo [5 Things to Keep in Mind]

It’s important to see a NetSuite demo before choosing a partner or committing to the software. But before going into a demo, you need to know the right questions to ask and be prepared to evaluate if it’s the right choice for your business.

Here are five quick tips to help you maximize your NetSuite demo.

1) Analyze your business process. What features do you need?

First, you need to be able to document your business processes and figure out what features you need. Separate the “nice-to-haves” from the “must-haves.”?Then, you should clearly communicate your specific requirements to the presenter.

Be proactive in contacting the presenter by phone or email with all your questions before the NetSuite demo so they won’t waste any time showing you features that you don’t need.

2) Take a minute to determine how you will evaluate the results.

When it comes to Netsuite, you must ask yourself the following questions:

  • Why are you looking at this type of software?
  • What expectations do you have for its value-add to your company?
  • What pains do you think it will relieve?
  • How will a NetSuite demo clarify your decision?

3) Remember to control the pace.

The moment you have any questions, don’t hesitate to stop the presenter. Frequently, viewers will have a question and tune out the presenter for minutes at a time because they are worried about forgetting their question. Either stop and ask or write your question down. You might forget in the end if you don’t ask and deal with it on the spot.

4) Filter Out the Irrelevant

Don’t let the presenter overwhelm you with 20 minutes of features that aren’t relevant to you. Compare it to your decision to purchase a smartphone. You probably bought it because of a few key features. Once you finally started using it, you realized that it is capable of doing a lot more than you originally thought.

The lesson is: You will learn all the advanced features with time.

5) Follow Up!

How accurately did the demonstrator research and listen to your needs? Was the presentation relevant? Did they spend too much time focusing on their company without addressing your specific concerns? If the demo was clear and favorable, what are the pricing estimates? Should I buy directly from the?vendor?or a value-added reseller?

Does the presenter represent the type of person you would like to do business with? If not, then there’s a good chance you should avoid them altogether. Finding software to fulfill your requirements is equally as important as finding the right people to do business with.

The best way to prepare for your demo is to map out your processes and requirements. Also, have an action plan for which decision-makers will be necessary for the demo. Lastly, decide how the NetSuite demo will help you clarify your ultimate financial software decision. After your demo, you may consider solidifying your decision with an in-person meeting. Often, you can tap into a local vendor user group to hear about real-life situations from current customers including implementation advice, bug fixes, and software customization tips.

Also, try to schedule a site visit to an existing customer by asking for a reference. Ask the reference about the vendor’s customer support, upgrade schedule, and true costs. An effective NetSuite demo should help move you towards finding the perfect software solution.
