Getting to Know You: Razi Afghan
We continue our 'Getting to Know You' series of interviews, where we introduce colleagues from across the Wilmington plc group, so you can learn more about the person, their current role and career path.
Today, we interview Razi Afghan Ph.D who is Head of Sales, Pharma Key Accounts for Wilmington Healthcare:
Hi Razi, please tell us a little about yourself:
"Born and raised in North London, I’ve never flown too far from the “nest” having studied at University of London. Even so, I’m much travelled, having visited Europe, North America, South Asia and Middle East due to work and pleasure.
My career is best summarised as white-coat-to-white-collar. I started out in the lab and transitioned into start-up Biotech soon after the dot-com bubble burst. I forged a career in Sales across Informa Plc, GlobalData Plc and IQVIA (16 years and counting), securing a series of promotions that has culminated in managing Key Accounts teams for the last eight years. So, I’d like to think I’ve been doing something right for clients and colleagues!"
What do you do at Wilmington?
"I joined Wilmington Healthcare in January 2022 as Head of Sales, Pharma Key Accounts. I manage a commercial team focused on promoting the value of our data-driven and enhanced access solutions to Pharma and MedTech sectors. The commercial team consists of 10 Sales and six Customer Excellence professionals."

What are you most excited about that you’re working on?
"Given I’m new to the team, and that Covid has prevented any meaningful team-building activities for everyone, I recently got the team together at Whitechapel to define our team values and behaviours. It was satisfying to see the team get so involved in shaping our identity and purpose. I’m excited at the prospect of seeing us live by these chosen values through our behaviours and actions; this will have a more far-reaching impact beyond ourselves; namely wider Wilmington colleagues and the communities we serve (e.g. clients)."
What’s your favourite thing about working at Wilmington?
"My early impression is the right balance between people and profit. In Sales, we must remember how we are measured. Equally, people drive performance. So, ensuring we create the right cultural mix of people, products and process is key to optimal performance."
What is your secret to making progress each day?
"Zig Ziglar once said “You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want.” For me this is pivotal as an over-arching action to making progress over any length of time."
