Getting to Know Our New EMEA Leader
In April, we welcomed a new leader to Alteryx Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). Jason Janicke joined the company as Senior Vice President of Sales, EMEA. In this role, he is not only managing go-to-market teams, but is also overseeing the business strategy, activities, and operations in the region.??
Since he joined us, Jason has been in full absorption mode, having conversations with our people, our customers, and our partners.??
He took a moment to talk to us about his first impressions of Alteryx, what his priorities will be, and why now is the perfect time to join the team.?
?Q: Tell us a little about your experience before Alteryx??
A: I'm an enterprise software lifer. I started my career answering the hotline for a small software company where I grew up in the northeast of the U.S. I then made my way to pre-sales before finally getting into sales for a cloud computing startup.??
My whole career up until that point had been working for early-stage companies and (with the looming Great Recession brought on by the global great recession) I decided I could benefit from getting some experience at a bigger company. That’s how I ended up at Salesforce, where I was for the next 12 years.??
For the first three years of my tenure, I was an Account Executive and eventually ran a team covering the southeast of the U.S. I was offered a great opportunity to help build out the international business and moved, with my wife, 2 kids, and dog in toe, to Europe to run a segment of the business in Germany. Eventually, I took an EMEA-wide role to build and scale out an overlay cloud sales team. With that role, I moved to the U.K., which then lead me to Alteryx.?
Q: What made you want to join Alteryx??
A: While I was still learning constantly at Salesforce, I wasn’t being challenged as much as I once was, and I wasn’t waking up in the morning excited to go to work. I decided it was time to look for other opportunities.??
I found an interesting role at a company, which was a great place to work, but I came to realize it was a margin-driven company and not a growth-driven company. I wanted to be at a company that was totally focused on growth, and Alteryx is exactly that. So, I joined Alteryx earlier this year.?
Q: What makes you excited to be at Alteryx??
A: It’s all about our potential. There’s a huge total addressable market (the market we’re serving is $65 billion annually today, and is projected to exceed $110 billion by 2025). Further, the market is fragmented because there is no single player that does data from the database to the visualization in one offering.??
And, we’re not done evolving our product or our go-to-market approach. Both of these transformations are very exciting to me. From the product side, most of us work in tech because we get excited about what technologies can do for people. Alteryx has thousands of customers that love our product as it is, but our move to the cloud is making new ways for our customers to benefit.?
From the go-to-market side, we’re changing our selling mindset. We’re now moving into an enterprise selling motion where we’re talking to the end users, the line of business, the head of the line of business, the C-Suite, and the board. We’re finding interest at all levels of the company, which is exactly where we want to be.?
Q: What will be some of your priorities??
A: My immediate priority was to do a lot of listening and then determine our focus.??

The biggest thing that I’ve noticed: In EMEA we need to create a very clear and concise cross-functional pipeline generation plan. Today each organization has plans, but they're not cross-functionally aligned. So, there's a big opportunity for us to drive improvements there.??
As soon as you join the company, you see there is a massive amount of talent in this company. Across every function of the business, we need to align those teams and individuals so that we’re all working towards mutual success – even in different business units.?
Q: What is important to you when it comes to creating a workplace culture??
A: When I think about how to create a great work culture, I break it down into four pillars.??
First and foremost is our employee experience. As an organization and as individual managers, we always need to prioritize hiring, developing and coaching, and promoting. Our people must feel that they belong, that they are growing, and that they are recognized and rewarded for their work.?
The second pillar is our operational excellence. How do we come together and communicate as a team? Do we execute on common goals that drive us towards a shared vision? And, are we empowering the teams in the field to actually go do those things efficiently???
The third pillar is our customer satisfaction. We’re the voice of our customers within the business. We are responsible for bringing their stories and voices to life for others within Alteryx so we can all work together to better serve them. Whether it is through our product or our customer marketing or the way we onboard new users, we must always think about our customers because that leads to growth. There’s a reason Customer First is one of our core values.?
The last pillar is our long-term strategy. Everyone on the team needs to know where we are going in the next 12-36 months, and how all those three other pillars will take us there. Where should we be making our big bets to become the $2 billion company??
Our culture is one of the most critical parts of reaching that milestone.?
Q: Why should people join your team??
Growth: personal growth, professional growth, financial growth.??
We are a company that invests in getting better at what we do every single day. A growth mindset is how we can attract and retain talent, attract, and retain customers, and develop new products and solutions.??
If you’re someone who has experience in and thrives in a high-growth environment, I want you on my team.?

We’re hiring throughout EMEA. Join us.?
