Today in this article we will describe about the image classification and it's types.But stay tuned on my next article on image classification ,we will discuss which method or type of image classification is most suitable .

What do you mean by image classification in Gis terms?

Image classification is a method of deriving the thematic information from raster data about a particular feature or an area.

Intro

With the advance sensors , we can obtain imagery of remote places that contains multiple spectral bands with a large quantity of information about the location.To make decisions about the information contained in the imagery , decision makers need the ability to turn the data into actionable intelligence about the area.

It's tell about the image classification in ArcGis and provide guidance for making the decision about which image classification technique is the best one for the analysis.

Image Classification History

Remotely sensed satellite data for studying the earth became available in the 1970 s with the launch of the Landsat Satellites.The worldwide coverage , advance sensors ,continuity, and the delivery rate of new data created many new opportunities to study the earth that had not been previous available .

Again a short description about the topic ,Image Classification is the task of extracting thematic classes from a raster image .The available data contained within the raster image has increased due to the refinement in spatial resolution and addition of spectral bands.

Methods of Image classification in ArcGIS

• The two primary image classification methods are Unsupervised classification and Supervised classification.
• Another new technique introduced for classification is Object based classification.
• Deep learning methods use neural networks to further refine the image classification and feature extraction capabilities.
