Getting To Know Conduce: Pioneering Paperless Aviation with eTechLog8

Conduce designs, develops, and implements mobile solutions for the aviation industry. Established fourteen years ago, the company boasts over 100 years of collective experience in previous aviation operations, engineering, and software development. Their core product is a comprehensive electronic solution for aircraft logbooks. Additionally, they provide numerous companion applications to support their mission of making aviation processes entirely paperless.

Our Co-Founder, Eranga Wadugodapitiya , caught up with Paul Boyd , Director of Conduce , at the Dubai Airshow . Paul has been working with Conduce since its inception for 14 years now.

Below is the Q&A interview transcript.

Can you tell us what Conduce specializes in and what is it for?

We're predominantly providing software applications that replace traditional paper-based systems with electronic systems. Our flagship product, eTechLog8, serves as the brand name of our solution, specifically designed to replace paper aircraft logbooks with an electronic solution. The advantages of transitioning from paper to electronic systems in our industry are significant. Firstly, it saves weight on the aircraft, additionally, it’s easier to transfer the data around the business if they’re collecting the data electronically. Airlines customers, in particular, benefit greatly from managing data electronically, experiencing enhanced consistency and data accuracy. This, in turn, enables them to make more informed and sensible decisions.

What other services does Conduce provide?

We provide consultancy services to some of our customers, offering advice and assistance. Within eTechLog8, there are several other modules related to tech log. For example, we have a document library solution and a forms designer within the application. Additionally, we offer a companion application called eCabinLog8, primarily aimed at the cabin services team. This application helps them keep the cabin in shipshape condition, providing significant benefit to some of our full-service providers. This is especially crucial for those with inflight entertainment or business class suites on the aircraft, where the condition of the cabin becomes business critical.? eCabinLog8 also has the flexibility of functionality to support LCC and ACMI providers.

What sets Conduce apart from the competition?

I genuinely believe that we are the best in class at what we do. As a highly specialized software provider, we don't operate on a large scale with EIP, ERP, or MIS systems that cut across various modules and sectors. We are very specialized in what we do, and we do it really, really well. Although our product is relatively new to the market, having been around for only eight years, we've already garnered a significant customer base using the product. We deliver a simple yet impactful product that fulfils a significant need within the airline industry. That's what sets us apart from our main competition.

Could you share with us a few milestones achieved?

I believe the key milestones for us revolve around our market growth. Since the onset of COVID, our business has consistently doubled each year for the past three years, both in terms of customer base and financial success. We're continuing to build on this momentum. We are generally one of the first electronic technical logbook solutions to be approved within a particular territory. We have a lot of expertise dealing with the Airworthiness authorities. I think that really does give us a lot of capability and a lot of knowledge to offer to the airlines.

One of the other things that we do is we have a full-service solution delivery model. We don't merely sell the software and leave the rest to the client; instead, we offer added-value services to ensure airlines derive maximum benefits from the application and system. I consider this a key aspect of our commitment to customer satisfaction.

In reference to customer satisfaction, could you share a few of the customers that are on board?

We currently have around 30 customers using our product, which is quite significant. Considering the various airliners in the world and about 30,000 commercial operating globally at any given time, our clientele represents a notable presence. Our customers primarily include a range of commercial airliners, from full-service providers like Etihad Airways to low-cost carriers such as Jazeera Airways in Kuwait. Additionally, we also provide a lot of services to the ACMI providers, who have unique needs due to their aircraft being stationed in different areas of the world for varying durations, ranging from three weeks to three months from which they need to get that information back into their maintenance system. Notable ACMI providers using our systems include SmartLynx Airlines and Avion Express.

On the cargo side, we've established a worldwide agreement with DHL for all their aircraft. One of the customers that I'm really proud of is Airbus Transport International. Our system is onboard the Belugas, and if you ever talk to an aviation geek or mention the Belugas, their face lights up—it's such a lovely aeroplane.

Lastly, what does Conduce have in the pipeline for the coming years?

Well, the system is always moving forward, with the upcoming enhancements focusing on what I refer to as Planned Maintenance on the system. We envision the system evolving into a more integral tool for line maintenance use. Specifically, it will serve as a maintenance tool empowering smaller airlines to access electronic work packages directly at the point of delivery next to the aircraft. They may have a small MRO system that doesn't have the capability for electronic worksheets, but within our application we'll be able to deploy electronic worksheets to the customer and they'll be able to raise non-routine cards as a result of the check that they're carrying out. That's a big development that's going to available from Q1 2024. We have already spec’d the requirements within our software development team, and it stands as one of the major deliverables for 2024.

It's an interesting time that we live in.
