Getting invited on a podcast.

Hi there!

Is it just me or are those last days before one's vacation always the ones that are extremely busy? I guess it's not just me ?? Anyway, we're here to talk PR, so let's dive right in!

In my last newsletter, I shared with you what a journalist is looking for. Today I want to share with you what podcast hosts are looking for.

When you are invited to a podcast show you mostly will share two things:

  1. Your brand story aka how you came up with your business and the reason WHY you run it and believe in it.
  2. Your expertise. With my clients, I craft 2-4 what I call core topics of impact. These are the topics that you talk about over and over again, just in front of different audiences. They also should strongly relate to what you want to be known for.

The fundamental difference between a journalist and a podcast host is that a journalist has to come up with new stories over and over again, and a podcast host is looking for guests with great expertise that is of interest to their audience. Those core topics of impact can but do not have to be timely.

What does that mean for you? It's less work to get on a podcast once you have everything in place because you come up with your topics once and don't have to think of new ones all the time. That is why I recommend my clients to start their PR journey with podcasts and then add online magazines. The combination of both is unbeatable!

No matter if you pitch a journalist or a podcast host, here's THE golden rule for success:

Always come from a place of service and wanting to add value.

The media/podcast feature is not a place to promote your business, it's the place to add value to an audience.

Excellent article Simone ?? Sauter ! I just published a journal on Amazon that became a Best Seller. Do you recommend that I look for podcasts in my niche ( working motherhood & burnout prevention/wellness/self- care). I have an origin story and a burnout prevention proprietary process. Do you recommend I pitch myself to these podcasts using a one pager media Bio describing 1 & 2 ? Would you have a template of a one pager media Bio for podcasts especifically?

Two great points Simone ?? Sauter One's that I'll be focusing on during August (my thoughtful month!) 1.
