Not getting interviews? This one's for you

Not getting interviews? This one's for you

Hey job seeker,

Happy Monday! You already know I’m obsessed with helping you improve your interview performance… but sometimes the job market ebbs and flows, or we don’t see as many relevant roles opening as we’d like. What should you do then?

If you haven’t been getting as many interviews as you’d hoped lately, here are 3 things you can do to stay competitive as a job candidate:

1?? Make sure your RESUME is solid (and ATS-friendly)

A good rule of thumb is you should aim to get interviews for about 10-20% of the jobs you apply for. If you’re applying to hundreds of jobs but not getting any interviews (what us job search professionals call the “spray and pray” method), odds are that your resume or job search strategy are the bottleneck.

Your resume should 1) demonstrate results that are compelling and relevant to the job you’re applying for, and 2) be formatted correctly so it can be easily read by ATS (Applicant Tracking System - the software used by recruiters to parse through those thousands of applications to find the most relevant ones)

Not sure where to start? Check out the recording of last week’s Resume & Interview Clinic . Just remember that the replay expires tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, so be sure to watch it before then.

2?? Improve your INTERVIEW SKILLS while you wait

The best time to build your interview skills is BEFORE you need them. The last thing you want is to get an interview for a job you really want and then scramble to prepare because your interview skills are rusty.

I’ll also mention this: for a lot of job seekers, long breaks between interviews often result?in MORE self-doubt and nervousness. So by the time you get an interview, it becomes that much harder to perform at your best, because you feel both out of practice AND like you have a lot more on the line.

If you’re ready to dive in and take your interview skills to the next level, I encourage you to book a free 15-minute consultation to explore options for how we can work together.

3?? Do what you need to stay in FAITH.

If you’re religious or spiritual, be sure to stay connected to your higher power in whatever way works for you, and on a daily basis. Maybe it’s prayer, intention setting, or affirmations.

If you’re not religious or spiritual, find other ways to trigger a sense of awe, trust, and inspiration in your life. Maybe it’s taking a long walk, going into nature, listening to music that moves you, or making art.

While my job as an interview coach is to teach you interview strategies and communication techniques, it’s also to help you get into the right mental headspace to perform at your best.

And you're much more likely to perform well when you can ground yourself in something bigger and expose yourself to positive emotions.

Hope that helps, friend. Let me know which of these you’re going to focus on.

Best,

Tali

"Your resume should...demonstrate results"--yes! I see so many resumes that only show what the job seeker did, not how well they did it or the impact it had. Very on point, Tali Shlafer, CIC.
