Getting inside d.light: Getting to know some of the employees and what makes them tick

We had the pleasure of getting to know one of d.light’s remarkable change-makers, Beatrice Hawi. Hailing from the bustling city of Nairobi, Kenya, Beatrice leads Business Development and Sales at d.light. Not only that, but she also proudly chairs the Women in d.light Employee Resource Group, embodying the company's spirit of empowerment and innovation.

A Journey from Pharmaceuticals to Impact-Driven Sales

Before finding her true calling at d.light, Beatrice’s career was a whirlwind through the fast-moving world of FMCG and pharmaceuticals. “I was in medical sales,” she recalls, “a completely different field, but it set a strong foundation for what I do now.”

We were curious to find out sets d.light apart from other companies? Beatrice’s eyes light up as she explains, “d.light is an impact business. It’s not just about sales and numbers. We are dedicated to transforming lives and we actually track and measure that change. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know our work genuinely improves people’s lives.”

In the world of partnerships, Beatrice stands out for her unwavering dependability. “Trust is crucial,” she says. “I believe in under-promising and overdelivering. Our credibility depends on our reliability, and I make sure we always live up to our commitments.”

“Profitability is key for any distributor,” Beatrice notes. “Our products are top-quality and offer some of the best margins in Kenya. With 15 years of pioneering the solar industry in Africa, we provide unparalleled value. Plus, our strong local presence and excellent after-sales service mean ongoing support.”

While talking to Beatrice, it became clear that at d.light, the culture is as dynamic as its products. “We’re driven by our iHOPE values,” Beatrice explains. “Honesty, integrity, and empathy are at our core. We continually evolve based on market research to meet our customers’ needs. For example, during recent floods in Kenya, we initiated CSI projects to support affected communities.”

When asked about her favourite aspect of working at d.light, Beatrice didn’t hesitate with this answer “Empowerment. We’re encouraged to innovate and take initiative. Our leadership trusts us to come up with ideas and run with them. It’s incredibly liberating compared to other places I’ve worked.”

But more so, the true care d.light shows. Two stories stand out for Beatrice. During COVID-19, d.light partnered to provide solar home systems to rural clinics, including one in her own community. “Seeing the clinic stay open late and students studying there was heartwarming.” On a personal note, d.light supported Beatrice through a year and a half of illness, adapting her role so she could continue working. “Their compassion and flexibility have made me fiercely loyal to this organisation.”

The d.light Difference

“Empowerment and empathy from our leadership set d.light apart,” Beatrice emphasises. “They genuinely care about our well-being and professional growth.”

Beatrice loves the networking aspect of her job. “Meeting people from all walks of life and building my personal brand is incredibly rewarding.”

We asked Beatrice what she would say to future partners considering joinging d.light

“What are you waiting for? Join us now!” Beatrice enthusiastically encourages anyone considering becoming a d.light partner.

Beatrice’s passion for change and her dedication to improving lives shine through in every word. Her journey with d.light is not just a career; it’s a mission to light up the world, one solar panel at a time.
