Getting Hired in BLONO
The tips for getting hired in BLONO are the same as just about anywhere in America. And they are simple.
First, have a properly constructed resume. Resumes still matter, even in this digital world. In another article I can tell you the science behind this antiquated phenomenon. But for now just know that you need a resume. We can talk later about what should be in and what should be left out of your resume. If you are unsure about your resume, get help.
Second, use your network and build your network. Some statistics show that nearly 80% of the people looking for a job find their next one via someone they already know. Who is in your network? Everyone you know is in your network. Everyone you are connected to on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter is in your network. The cashier who checks you out each week at Jewel, the folks you play volleyball with at Gill Street and Pheasant Lanes, people who belong to your church, and the members of you Rotary club, too, are in your network. Some links are stronger than others. But even the weak links can prove valuable. You can have them all working for you if you have a strategy. That’s another article.
Third, if you get the interview, please, pretty please, be prepared. Know stuff about company. In this digital online world it's not hard to know a lot about a potential future employer. With your new knowledge of the target company you should be prepared with questions to ask in the interview. Remember you are qualifying the company you might work for as much are they are trying to qualify you. This is not just an effort to get a job offer. This is you making the right decision. Asking questions shows the company you are engaged and interested in the position.
Look sharp for the interview. It is nearly impossible to overdress. Business formal is never a bad idea. Here is a Sammie secret tip: Find somewhere to do the Wonder Woman stance for a couple of minutes before you go into the interview. This is the body preparing your mind for the experience. More on this in another article.
Even if you are doing a phone interview, I encourage you to at least take the call dressed business casual. Never do a phone interview in your pajamas. The interviewer can hear pajamas over the phone. I don’t know how but I know it is true.
Good luck.

5 年Thanks for the article, this year I plan on finding a new job.
Great article! I’d say, also study up on current interview trends since many companies utilize video interview technologies which can totally throw you off your game if you aren’t prepared. But, if you are prepared, you could totally own the screening interview.

5 年I'm always surprised when I interview someone and they have zero questions for me.? It's typically an immediate yellow flag.? Alternatively, I expect anyone interviewing me to give me time for questions - because as you said, "you are qualifying the company you might work for as much are they are trying to qualify you."
