Getting to the heart of it...

There are some things you can only see in a certain light.

Like the spider’s webs draped on dewy grass in the early morning.

Later in the day, when the sun has been at work, you won’t notice them. Unless you feel the web catching your bare ankles.

So with soul.

It’s there all the time, we just don’t see it. Yet when we pause, we can feel it in ourselves and in others.

Without getting all theological or philosophical about it, the soul is our essence.

We can’t rub it out, but we can layer so much over it that we can’t see it.

And that’s a shame. Because as our essence, it is actually who we are. Our identity derives from it, and it is our most aliveness.

So, I believe it is important to feed and water our souls.

How do you look after yours?

This week

After discussing our need for words that help us pause, think and see differently last weekend, this week’s posts have allowed me to explore my few good words: beauty, alchemy, poetry, hope and soul.

Anniversary

Five years ago today, I posted my first daily pause. Initially focused on Quiet Disruptors, it morphed into something more personal after a while.

Heartfelt thanks to all of you who have been here since the beginning. And to those who have joined along the way, I appreciate your company.

As I continue to muse on A Few Good Words, here is a poem that sums up the journey:

GETTING TO THE HEART OF IT

A few

good words,

that’s all we need.

Not endless explanations,

or more data or information,

our minds are not an open suitcase

to be stuffed full and carried endlessly.

Instead, we need a few good words

to help us make the connection

with what really matters

and more importantly

who really matters.

Connecting you

and me.

Big congrats on your milestone!

Congrats, Sue. Saying it in one single word!

What a lovely poem in all ways. Thank you for supporting our pauses, Sue.

There can be so many layers to shed Sue. Feels good when we catch glimpses of it. Like in your words ??
