Getting to grips with Sustainability
When we talk about achieving sustainability targets with clients the conversation is so often focused on the need for new technology and the latest product that has just been released, this is then followed by a usually heated discussion between head of Sustainability and finance on how the company can afford it and where else we need to cut back from.
Innovation definitely is required and we need to always be striving to fit the best tech we can, especially with the pressing need to become carbon zero over the next few years. The challenge is that the tech on its own can NOT produce the results on its own. The real change that is required first is in the way our we think and ultimately behave. Behaving in the same way but with smarter tech only gets us so far, but by engaging with the new tech with a new way of thinking produces the maximum results.
But what creates the right thinking? We need to look at our processes within the organisation. What is the process within the business to facilitate creative thought? What processes do we have that encourage new ideas? What are the processes that engage our staff around sustainability? By being innovative at this stage we greatly leverage the success of the new tech we bring in that supports sustainability.

Innovative processes come from innovative thinking. That simply put is asking better questions, these might include; Are our processes producing the best results? Are they creating innovative products or behaviours? Some questions that might unlock the door might be; Is there a safe place for people to share crazy ideas? What process do we have to give voice to the timid in our organisation? What innovative processes do we have that engage people in a meaningful way around sustainability? What innovative processes do we around scoreboarding? How do we get our targets and actual results seen and understood by everyone?
We all need a little help with this, that's where The Climate Change can help, through our outsourced Sustainability programme we can work throughout your organisation ensuring that the very best innovative processes are in place that produce innovative solutions.

2 年So agree. Implementation differs from application and execution. So often we are busy implementing systems, designing culture, but the win only comes from people doing. I like how Brene Brown says, 'Slogans needs Systems.' Its the shadow between 'concept and creation' that is often not crossed and organisations and individuals need to spend time in this shadow in order to really gain the gains they want. In the end, the more simpler and practical we make things, and the more clarity we provide, the more we can benefit from the technology or the aspiration to develop sustainable solutions.
