As a small business owner you may be cruising along just fine without a large local digital footprint. That is to say your business may not rank high in google searches and therefore you don’t receive much “internet businessâ€.? Other efforts may be keeping your business running. As a digital marketing strategist I find many small businesses simply missing opportunities in local search because they think it’s too complicated.
But missing out on local search is missing out on business opportunities. 46% of searches on google have local intent. And businesses visible in local search have a 35% higher chance of in store traffic according to an article on Saga Pixel. The article, which is a collection of great statistics about local search, points out the term “near me†in search queries has grown 50% in the last year. As local search becomes much more popular, Google My Business has become much more important for local businesses to understand and master.?
A recent study from rank.io on local search shows some very easy ways businesses can improve their foot print in local searches. Among these findings was having a city listed in the Google My Business (GMB) profile having the highest impact ranking. The article also included the need for the GMB information to be filled out in full and correctly for rank improvement as well as increased reviews and regular posts. In working with small business owners I see the proof of improvement when these changes are made.?
So where should you start??
First claim your Google My Business listing by clicking here. Second make sure that your GMB listing is filled out completely and has pictures. Third, reach out to your customers to write positive reviews about your business. Lastly, update you Google My Business listing with weekly posts. They don’t have to be long, but can answer questions you business solves.?
