Getting in the Flow

Siddhartha. 1960’s. The river of life. Majoring in humanities, San Francisco State, Hesse was one of my favorites.

You are either a stick or a leaf. Both make it down the river; one floats and lilts along the way; the other bangs, crashes, and swirls along the way, worse for the wear.

I WAS the stick. I AM NOW the leaf. We have choices. For example, the choice to learn why we react rather than respond; why some people seem to ‘push our buttons’ while others can say the same thing without a reaction.

EASY to say. EASY to even imagine. And in everyday life, when outside conditions and circumstances seem to interrupt our ‘flow,’ we HAVE NO CONTROL. WHY?

And further, WHY is it important to know WHY?

It’s only important if you are CURIOUS as to why your life is not filled with riches... all SORTS of riches! Wealth, health, happiness, community, spirituality, relationships.

You may have convinced yourself that “survival is all I need,” or even “it’s selfish to want more.” So you get just that – what you have convinced yourself you should have or are worthy of having. It’s easy isn’t it? Making ends meet, living paycheck to paycheck and watching others that seem like you, live in big homes, beach homes, drive expensive cars, and travel the world.

What is important is that YOU made that choice, consciously or by default.

There is an EASIER choice which yields the OPPOSITE of survival. Yes, indeed. And all it takes is YOUR DESIRE to learn something you didn’t know before. THIS CHOICE would be an effort on your part to understand EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE. You are familiar with IQ (intelligence quotient) I know.

EQ is your emotional quotient. Why you react when you really don’t want to. You seem to have no control at all in some and certain situations. It is what causes you to look at the leaf, floating by while you, the stick are banging up against rocks, bark torn off, whipped and tired on the journey.

For the past few decades we’ve been all about technology and IQ. Now we have more bells and whistles than Carter has little liver pills. In our effort toward technology business has changed.

The old business patterns are dissolving leaving a brand new landscape for entrepreneurs... for the creative to look at this change as OPPORTUNITY.

What has been neglected is EQ or why we don’t do what we KNOW to do!

You know you need to call that client today, but you say, “he doesn’t want to hear from me,” or “I’ll wait until tomorrow.” WHY do you DO THAT?

Understanding that WHY is what will TRANSFORM YOU into the Leaf on the river of life. The leaf that enjoys the beauty, the sun, has plenty of nourishment, lives abundantly, observes and relates and is in harmony with the River.

So you’ve done EVERYTHING YOU KNOW and you still don’t ‘feel’ like a success. You still worry about your next paycheck or commission. You still look longingly at the boats on the lake on a sunny day, with other folks enjoying their drink and the sunshine and friends, while you limp along in an old car, with smoke pouring out the tailpipe.

All you need to do is take a deep breath and take ONE UNCOMFORTABLE STEP into YOURSELF. I know it seems scary and easier to wrangle with outside circumstances. Once you do this, you will be AMAZED at your REAL worth and ability.

I love this! I am currently reading Permission to Feel by Dr. Marc Brackett and Daniel Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence: Why it Can Matter More Than IQ. I am deeply interested in understanding our emotions and how they affect us. Thanks for sharing!
