Getting down and dirty!
In my fourth week in my new role I got down and dirty (literally) with some fantastic, professional pest controllers. Thank you to Gary from Pestforce and Emily and Phil at Precision Pest Management Solutions. I picked what was one of the coldest days to go wandering around a caravan park, golf course, student accommodation and food production factories.
My expectation was that I would see great pest management in action which I did. I also thought I would potentially come face to face with some rodents or at least see visible signs of their activity, which, apart from three dead moles, I didn’t. My reflection was that actually professional pest management is so much about prevention and so the absence of pests should have been my initial expectation.
I have nothing but admiration for those professionals who took the time to show me their trade, trudging through sodden grass, squeezing through fairly inaccessible building perimeters, crawling in roof voids. As those who know me will know, I am not slight of frame and some of the access issues to do pest management well were a real physical challenge.
As a membership organisation it is vital that me and my team understand the work undertaken by our members and I am fortunate to have excellent practitioners in the team and will encourage all team members to take the opportunity to get down and dirty, if they haven’t already done so.
Next week sees me visiting more members in the South West of England, lets hope the weather has improved by then.
