Getting CLEAR About Your Growth Plan: A Roadmap for Intentional Development
Most of us are familiar with the idea that growth is essential for success, both personally and professionally. But if we’re honest, how many of us really know how to grow? For years, I thought growth would happen naturally over time as long as I kept working hard. However, I quickly learned that growth doesn’t just happen—it requires intentional effort, self-reflection, and a clear plan.
Many of us want to improve, but we don’t know where to start, and that’s okay. What’s important is recognising this gap and taking action to close it. That’s why going forward, we will be sharing posts focused on the essential areas of growth that we believe are critical to your development: communication, leadership, equipping, attitude, and relationships.
These five areas form the foundation of John Maxwell’s CLEAR Model, a powerful framework for personal and professional development. In this blog post, we will outline how getting CLEAR about your growth plan can help you become more intentional, overcome challenges, and take control of your growth journey.
1.????Communication
Good communication is the foundation of every successful relationship, whether personal or professional. But effective communication doesn’t just happen by accident—it’s a skill that requires practice. In your growth plan, focus on improving how you convey ideas, listen actively, and ensure that your message is understood by others. In future posts, I’ll be diving deeper into the tools and strategies for mastering communication.
2.????Leadership
Leadership is about influence, not just authority. Whether you’re managing a team or leading yourself through challenges, learning to lead with vision and purpose is crucial. Great leaders are not born—they are developed through intentional growth. By learning how to lead effectively, you can create a positive impact not just in your life, but in the lives of others.
3.????Equipping
Equipping yourself and others means gaining the tools, knowledge, and skills you need to succeed. Personal growth is about identifying gaps in your knowledge and actively seeking ways to fill them. But it’s not just about self-equipping—it’s also about empowering others, giving them the tools to succeed. Future posts will explore how to identify your own needs, as well as how to equip those around you for success.
4.????Attitude
Your attitude shapes your reality. A positive, growth-oriented mindset allows you to see challenges as opportunities and setbacks as learning experiences. The way you approach situations—whether with optimism or defeat—has a significant impact on your success. Cultivating a strong attitude of resilience and adaptability will be a key part of your growth plan.

5.????Relationships
No one grows in isolation. Relationships are a critical part of your personal and professional journey. By surrounding yourself with people who encourage and challenge you, you create an environment where growth is not only possible but inevitable. Nurturing strong, meaningful relationships will accelerate your progress and keep you grounded.
Building Your Growth Plan
So how do you get CLEAR about your growth? It starts with a decision: a decision to grow intentionally. Next, you need to take stock of where you are in each area of the CLEAR model and identify where there’s room for improvement. From there, you can set actionable goals and begin to focus on one area at a time.
Here are a few tips for creating your growth plan:
1. Assess Yourself: Take some time to reflect on your strengths and areas for improvement in each of the CLEAR categories. Where are you excelling? Where do you feel stuck?
2. Set Goals: Once you’ve identified areas for growth, set specific, measurable, and achievable goals for each one. For example, if communication is a weakness, you might set a goal to practice active listening in conversations and ask for feedback from peers.
3. Track Progress: Growth is a journey, not a destination. Keep track of your progress and celebrate your wins along the way. Adjust your plan as needed, but stay focused on the areas that matter most.
4. Seek Feedback: Don’t be afraid to ask others for their perspective on your growth. Whether it’s a mentor, colleague, or friend, outside feedback can help you see things you might have missed.
5. Stay Committed: Growth isn’t always easy, and there will be setbacks along the way. What’s important is staying committed to your growth plan, even when progress feels slow.
Getting CLEAR about your growth plan is the first step toward becoming the best version of yourself. By focusing on the areas of communication, leadership, equipping, attitude, and relationships, you’ll have a roadmap that guides you through your growth journey.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing more detailed insights and practical tips on each area of the CLEAR model to help you get started.
