Getting Back on the Same Page

Getting Back on the Same Page

An ounce of prevention... or a pound of cure

It's Mark C. Winters and I'm writing from the airport. I’m travelling to an event where I go every Quarter to learn and get better. Always learning.

We received a question recently about keeping the team on the same page that I want to talk to you about. The Leadership Team had not been together for a while, and the Integrator says, "How am I going to get them back on the same page?"

My initial response was that it's not going to be easy. It's going to be hard. It's going to take time and a lot of work. That's one reason for having your weekly meeting with the Leadership Team. You want to keep them on the same page.

When you think about Same Page Meetings?, I want you to think about it in two ways. Number one, you are having your Same Page Meetings? with your Visionary or Integrator. That's how you two are staying on the same page with your counterpart. Likewise, Integrators, you're having your weekly Level 10 Meeting? with the whole Leadership Team, including the Visionary. That's how everybody there will stay on the same page.

If you let either one of those disciplines slip, you're going to drift. You're going to start drifting further and further away from being on the same page. And it's going to take more and more work to get it all put back together.

Three key points I want you to keep in mind on this for this week:

  1. Don't drift. Don't stop doing it. Stick to the discipline and prevent the drift in the first place.
  2. If you've let it happen, it's not going to get better, so don't wait. Go ahead and re-engage your Same Page Meetings?. Re-engage your weekly Level 10 Meetings?. Get that going again because it's not going to get better by itself. It's going to get worse and it will become more work.
  3. Remember how important that same page discipline is. Same page is the root of almost everything. The vast majority of the problems that we see come back to that.
