Getting Back On The Horse

Well hey there, it’s great to see you back here for another edition of The Culture Junky LinkedIn Exclusive Blog. We’re making our way through July and enjoying all of the great weather this month has to offer as we grill our way through summer.?
I had a meeting with one of my clients recently, someone I coach, and during this meeting my client said that they had taken their foot off the gas the past few weeks. Their culture didn’t need an entire overhaul or anything like that, they were more at the ‘maintenance’ stage of things, working to optimize their cultural experiences over the summer to best engage their team members.?
So when I learned that this client had taken their foot off the gas and hadn’t tweaked, or corrected any of the new culture events they implemented in recent months, I had a simple message for him.?
“Get back on the horse”
When you fall off the horse, the only thing you can do is get back on the horse and try again. It is okay to fall, but it’s not okay to stay there.?
You see this client had built tons of momentum towards their goal of creating a best in class organizational culture, and had come so far from when we started meeting. To just completely stop all momentum, it wasn’t good.?
Culture isn’t something you can turn on and turn off based on how amped up you are, or based on how busy of a week you’re having. It’s something you have to constantly work at to tweak and dial in each and every day so that your team is getting a best in class experience.?
Remember what I said earlier, it’s okay to fall off the horse, it’s not okay to stay there.?
If you have a week or month where you aren’t as active when it comes to managing your organizational culture, the only thing you can do is commit wholeheartedly to getting back on the horse and delivering that best in class experience to everyone in your organization.?
Give that some thought, have a great weekend, and we’ll talk soon.?
