Getir Culture in a Nutshell: Record Day

Last week, I had the pleasure of participating in Getir Germany's "Record Day" by doing a courier shift of about 6 hours.

The weather was terrible (Berlin in February.. nothing surprising) and I needed a lot of patience to deal with that as well as little issues along the way - couldn’t find an address, messed up an order, forgot to give one of the bags to a customer, etc. All I can say is: it is NOT an easy job, but it is kind of fun if you love cycling, like I do.?

A Record Day at Getir is a day where we offer loads of discounts to our customers, involve our head office employees as couriers and stretch our capabilities to the max. More than delivering orders, it's about seeing what is working and what needs improving when we scale up.?

Many people ask me: what is the culture like at Getir?

For me, Record Days are the best to summarize Getirian culture. Here is how:

  • We regularly stretch outside of our comfort zone to see how far we can scale up;
  • We enjoy setting seemingly impossible goals (doubling number of orders) and crush them most of the time;?
  • We are all working towards the same goal: everyone is involved; the couriers of course, but also recruiters, operations staff, tech, and even the general manager contribute happily;
  • We show appreciation for each other and celebrate our successes together: we had a great call with everyone afterward to go through what we achieved and to thank everyone that participated.
  • We look at what went wrong and take concrete steps to improve.?

There is of course more to Getir than Record Days and the best way to fully understand it is to be part of it. I joined 4 months ago as a Tech Recruiter and I can confidently say that it is a supportive organization that has big dreams, always strives for more, but at the same time, does not compromise when it comes to human values of integrity, respect and care.?

Of course, we have a long way to go. Many things are not going right and most processes are chaotic at the moment.. But if it was all perfect, it wouldn’t be fun or challenging, would it?
