Why planning your marketing is a must - Jane Hillsdon

This is one of the first episodes of The How to Do Marketing Show that I recorded.?

I thought it was important to share the importance of having a marketing plan before getting people excited about all of the fabulous marketing that they could include within that plan.

Marketing is one of those functions where it is really easy to get caught up in all the fun stuff. Especially these days! How cool is it playing with all of the social media channels such as Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok??

Marketing is fun. But as a small business owner, I’m pretty sure you’ll agree with me that wasting your precious time and your hard earned money isn’t. And that’s exactly what can happen if you dive headfirst into marketing tactics without first producing a plan.

The Small Business Marketing Price Guide

Marketing is not free. If you are serious about generating?significant results with your marketing, and this is not your skill set, then it’s imperative that you set aside a marketing budget that will consider media / ad spend, creative input (design, photography, copywriting etc.) and maybe a marketing resource to make sure that your marketing gets done.

If you don't have any money to spend on marketing, then?you will need to look for the opportunities for marketing that you can do yourself. But remember, what you don't spend in money, you'll spend in time.

From Good to Great by Jim Collins

I love this book. In fact, I love it so much, I'm about to re-read it. This book talks to business strategy and addresses what separates the companies that reach their potential, from those that don't.

Jim Collins and his team set out to prove this differentials with research and over a period of five years, they studied 1,435 Fortune 500 companies.

And what they discovered were?some key?fundamentals?about what makes a good company great.?

And these fundamentals are based around, disciplined people, disciplined thought and disciplined action.

If you are a sucker for strategy, then this book will not disappoint.
