Get Up Like you Did When you Learned to Walk

Most of us feel embarrassment when we fail at something. It starts when we are young and people laugh at us when we fall, trip or when we are not good at something. I remember in grade school in Gym class, I was one of those that was last to be picked to be on a team. I know others have experienced this. I was never particularly good at sports such as baseball, basketball, etc. I didn’t have the passion. I’ve always thought this was a horrible thing, and the teachers should have been the ones to choose the teams.
We are vulnerable in our childhood & how we are treated stays embedded into our subconscious mind. We carry these experiences throughout our adult lives; sometimes without even being aware of the impact. Later in life various situations and people trigger these past emotions. These triggers cause us to react to situations from the feelings we felt when we were young; failure, not fitting in, not wanted, inadequate, embarrassment, and so on.
There are no failures. If we could only remember the time we started learning to walk. We fell down many times, yet each time we fell, we got back up and began again. We were babies and hadn’t yet been tainted by the world and people around us. As babies, our mothers encouraged us to get back up and keep walking, one step at a time. What can we learn from this?
Richard Branson says, “Do not be embarrassed by your failures. Learn from them and start again.” Richard Branson is an amazing entrepreneur and business man. I have read his book “Screw It, Let’s Do It” and he has an incredible story. He has had many failures and yet he has always pushed forward to become a multi-billionaire. Imagine where he would be, had he given up from embarrassment!
As adults we don’t remember how strong we were as babies. We fell and we cried and yet we got up, over and over again until we reached success! Remember this when you fall. Each time you attempt to venture into new territories, go back and pretend you remember being a baby, learning to walk. While you won’t remember, you know you fell and you know you fell many times. Obviously, you got up because you are walking today. Keep this in mind when you fail at something today. Also pretend you remember how powerful you were as a child. You could do anything, and you weren’t hesitant about saying it out loud.
We learn from our failures. They don’t happen to defeat us. They happen to make us stronger & better. Often, they prepare us for something greater. Ignore the naysayers who try to discourage you or don’t believe in you. Some of them may mean well, and don’t want to see us hurt or fail. Some may not mean well and are projecting their own beliefs about themselves onto you. They think because they can’t see themselves achieving something, then how could you.
We can do whatever it is we are passionate about and the way to achieve it, is to keep doing it. Do it for the passion. When you do what you are passionate about, long enough, the money will come. If you are only doing it for the money, you probably won’t see success.
Stay focused on what you are learning and becoming from your experiences and you will feel better about where you are going. I often get excited when I find solutions to my problems. This excitement makes the hardship feel less important. We grow in our frustrating moments. We gain wisdom & knowledge which is priceless. Never give up!
