Everyone is aware of the film “Iron Man”, but very few are aware that the central character of Iron Man is inspired from the real life of Elon Musk. (Elon has also played a cameo role in the film Iron Musk -2. That scene was shot in his company).

He was born in South Africa and showed signs of genius through his reading and knowledge. Although smart and intelligent was bullied a lot by his school mates.

He decided to fly away from South Africa just before he turned 18. He then went to Canada to complete his education in Physics and Economics. (Musk is of the opinion that in order to do wonders and great things, one must possess the knowledge of Physics. We are mostly governed and affected by Physics at every point of time).

ELON MUSK: He self-read and self-healed himself. He discovered that Darkness is just the absence of Photons. Further, that there is nothing to fear about darkness.

ELON MUSK: At 10 he tried joining computer class, but he was far ahead than the computer teachers in South Africa. At 12 he developed the game Blastar and sold it for $500. He had the business mindset since then.

Q5. What would one do, if a person gets admission in Stanford University, that too for PhD?

ELON MUSK: He left the course in just 2 days. He thought that it would be good to have a degree of Ph.D. but instead, he thought that it was the time to take advantage of the internet boom. He immediately started working on identifying and catering the internet industry.

Q6. What do you do, in a new city or state if you want to find a restaurant or ATM?

ELON MUSK: For a change here we are not discussing what Elon Musk did about the same. Elon Musk identified the problem and developed an online solution for locating things and businesses. He incorporated Zip2 Corporation and let the world free from Yellow Pages. It was the first company in the world to teach people to search online.

ELON MUSK: Most of us nowadays, seek financial freedom. Many plans for a certain amount and wish to get retired by the age of 45 or 50. Elon Musk received a whopping $165 Million Dollars in July 2002. He could have got retired, got villas and even series of islands with that amount. Elon Musk never stopped. He kept on doing something new and great.

Q8. Many of us complain about the growing traffic and worsening pollution data. What do we do for that?

ELON MUSK: He took over operations of an electric car company viz. Tesla. Can you recall an electric car seen in India? It’s size, look and speed? Elon Musk successfully launched Tesla which is faster than Ferrari and Cheaper than Maruti 800 car (in terms of fuel economy). He dreamt and delivered electric cars to reduce pollutions. In a startling announcement, Elon Musk declared that by 2030 there would be no petrol, diesel, CNG or LPG cars. It would be only electric cars. This was supported by a study made and published in May 2017 by Stanford Economist, Tony Seba that in next 8 years there would be only electric cars due to its Zero fuel emission and longevity.

Q9. If you thought of a business, what would that be? How would you select a business?

ELON MUSK: Most of the people across the world want to start a business which has a good profit margin and which would earn a lot of fortunes to us. Elon Musk is quite different from us all. He says whenever he thought of a business he used to ask one question to himself. He asked ‘What are the problem that will affect humanity?’. That is how he started or developed Tesla, Zip2 Corporation, Pay Pal, Solar City, Neuralink, Boring Company, Open AI and SpaceX. While launching Tesla & SpaceX he says “It wasn't question of profit versus non-profit. It was how do we (mankind) live?” This sums up all!

Q10. If you knew that the Internet is the next business to make fortunes, what would you do?

ELON MUSK: We would certainly rush at thinking some business as to how we can use the internet in making money. Elon Musk says he will launch 4425 satellites around our planet Earth for giving being an internet service provider. Nothing great so far, right? He says, he will provide the internet to the entire world FREE of cost!

Q11. If you were the CEO of a company, would be the salary you wish to draw?

ELON MUSK: Wow! CEO of a big company. We always dreamt of a 6-digit salary. No doubt we would wish for the same. For your information, Sundar Pichai received $200 Million salary last year (i.e. Rs. 1300 Crore Indian Rupees @ 1$=Rs. 65) as the CEO of Google. Elon Musk just drew $1 as his salary at Tesla. Currently, he draws $37000 which is lesser than the minimum wage for any labour in the USA.

Q12. If you started a business, what would be your expected sales value amount from your best client?

ELON MUSK: Don’t know how much we can even guess. The value of one order received by Elon Musk’s SpaceX company was $1.6 Billion from NASA.

Q13. What would you do to protect your production process?

ELON MUSK: Obviously Patent our product and processes. Elon Musk does not trust the government. According to Musk in order to copy his SpaceX project, it requires two things. First, a humongous amount of funds and second, the process knowledge. He says the SpaceX project can only be afforded by Government and no one else. So, the only one with whom he has to protect his process is from Government. If he applies for the patent, it would have to be submitted to Government. So, he has never applied for the patent for SpaceX.

Q15. What is the phrase we use to describe a thing which is easy to do?

ELON MUSK: Most of us say ‘it’s not a rocket science’. This shows that it Rocket Science is difficult to do, the task at your hand is very easy to do. So, Rocket Science is difficult. When someone asked Elon Musk “How did you build a rocket on your own?”, Elon humbly replied, “I read books”. Such is the reading and learning attitude of Elon Musk.

ELON MUSK: The success saga is not a fairytale. He has probably seen the world nightmares in business as well as personal fronts. His SpaceX launches failed for the consecutive 3 times. BBC – the world’s most trust news channel reported Tesla a big failure. His marriage failed and he had to get divorced. Banks who backed the financial support to Solar City business now backed out due to sub-prime crisis.

ELON MUSK: Many of us dream of a well-settled life. Job, family, property, name, and fame is the list of most of us. Elon Musk says, “When I was in college, I wanted to be involved in things that would change the world. . .” he softly adds “Now I am”. Today he has changed the world atleast 5 times through Zip2 Corporation, Paypal, Tesla, SpaceX, and Solar City. He has already laid the foundation to many other projects which would further change the world. He has started projects like Hyperloop (world’s fastest mode of communication after planes), Open AI (he says the biggest threat to mankind is Artificial Intelligence), Boring Company (under ground transportation), and Neuralink.

Q18. How would you like to die?

ELON MUSK: Most can’t think of this answer. Elon Musk says “I would like to die on Mars. . .” Elon Musk dreams to start a colony on Mars. He aims at transporting 1 million humans to Mars by the year 2030. He joking adds “I would like to die on Mars; Just not on Impact.”

The greatest lesson I have learned is from his line which says “If you need inspiration, don’t do it.”
