?SAP PI (Process Integration) is an integration platform that enables seamless integration between SAP and non-SAP applications within the A2A (Application to Application) organization or even outside the B2B (Business to Business) organization).
?SAP Process Orchestration is a tool for automating and optimizing business processes.
?SAP Process Orchestration combines the functionality of SAP Business Process Management (BPM), SAP Process Integration (PI), and SAP Business Rules Management (BRM).
?In other words, SAP Process Orchestration is a more advanced version of SAP PI and has all the tools you need to integrate applications.
?To better understand the concept of SAP PI, we take the example of a large-scale dairy industry that operates in much of a state and dominates the region.
?But there are small dairy industries operating in the same region, in parallel with the big industry, which makes no profit because of the variation of their prices compared to the big industry. So, to avoid the price conflict and keep the same price across the region, large and small companies decide to link up, with the help of SAP PI.
?They interconnect with the help of SAP PI and started to function as a single unit.
?Now, thanks to SAP PI, they are able to exchange all information related to the dairy industry, including prices, and share an equal amount of profits.
SAP PI connects different platforms like

?Asynchronous and synchronous communications
?Management of multi-component business processes.
?Before SAP PI, companies communicated with each other through point-to-point communication.
?But this process is not used for multiple and complex processes.
?For seamless communication between multiple companies, one uses the mediated communication or the integration broker, and SAP PI adapts this system very well.
?It allows the interconnection of a different process via a central location called Integration Broker, unlike the point-to-point connection that is more like a spider's web.
?The integration broker or server is an integral part of the mediated communication and consists of a Java-based Advanced Adapter Engine (AAE) and an integration engine for routing.
?The mediated communication is based on an integration broker executed by
exchanging XML messages.
SAP PI performs three basic functions:
?Connection: SAP PI has the ability to integrate with any application, whether it is a third-party application or SAP.
?It uses the adapter structure to integrate third-party solutions.
?Coordinate: It can define a path / workflow for each integrated business transaction.
?This ensures that each message is correctly delivered from the source to the target destination.
?Communicating: It can translate files into any format, whether it's an internal file format or any standard enterprise-to-enterprise integration.
