You need to get into a stream. If you get in someone’s car, you need to know there is enough room, enough gas, and that they can drive. Who’s got fuel in the tank? Where are they going? How fast can we go? You need to get with someone willing to drive fast.

That’s how you choose who to work for. 

College isn’t a stream, it’s a pond. You don’t want to stay in the stagnant water. The open ocean is constantly replenishing itself, but ponds stand still. Lakes need streams running into them otherwise they will dry up. Get in a stream and go with it, because the stream will keep you from being stagnant.

People fail in finance and in business because they depend on too few flows. A guy works his whole life depending on one salary and never creates other flows until too late in his life. People also fail in business for the very same reason—not enough flows to ensure success in business. This is when you become too dependent on one or two product lines or too few customers.

The most common mistake made when creating multiple flows is walking away from the current flow. Poor people try to replace flows of money while rich people are trying to supplement (add) flows. Creating multiple flows is the holy grail of creating financial freedom and true wealth. Most people start a second flow outside of their work, get excited about it, start ignoring the first one, and then end up with one flow again.
