Get Started!! You Can Do It!!

Get Started!! You Can Do It!!

Good morning everyone! I hope you have all made it to the middle of the week in great fashion. Does everyone remember where my title picture comes from? THE WATERBOY!!!

You know I was talking to my good buddy and colleague the other day Casey Williams, VP of Elevate Healthcare; and both of us, now with kids, we were talking movies both current and old. Being fairly similar, we share the same taste in film and that is being passed on to our children. The Waterboy, starring our childhood favorite Adam Sandler is one of my favorite movies. My daughter and I watched it this past weekend, along with a few others.

The picture is of Rob Schneider in this movie. He plays a small role, no doubt just to be alongside SNL friend Adam Sandler. Each time the Waterboy or the Coach is giving a speech, Schneider sticks his head up and says You Can Do It!!! That's pretty much it, and he does it about 4 times or so. Its one of my favorite things in any movie though...I don't know why I guess because, Rob plays such a simple person but has the correct attitude and expresses it boldly. Actually I just answered my question, that is exactly why!!!

I was asked earlier this week, if I had any suggestions or helping words for someone that was looking to start blogging. A couple things, one I really appreciated the person reaching out to me, it kind of validates yourself writing, in a way that at least one person thinks your writing isn't terrible. haha. The other thing it kind of brought to my attention; was the fact that I believe I may be closer to one of my favorite characters, then I really thought. I really only had a few words of advice that I wanted to express....and that was, "Just start, you can do it."  I expanded a little because I didn't want to come across as not caring or just giving such a loose answer that doesn't always help pushing people forward.

It was a simple answer, but an answer that really has been my motto my whole life. From sports and theater in high school, to sports and radio broadcasting in college, and on into commission sales and finally healthcare marketing, making changes and jumping into things just has always been somewhat comfortable for me. Granted, and I believe my friends, wife and family will all agree, that I have always been a little crazier than the norm. However I really feel that it comes down to just taking the chances and not quitting until I was somewhat satisfied with the job that I had accomplished.

The comfort-ability in my opinion comes from taking chances in front of audiences and failing...and learning that when it is all said and done, that everything is going to be okay.  Which is why I wrote my book "Failures Earned, Lessons Learned" which can be found on Amazon thru this link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YB4ZKNS

I have been in front of crowds or audiences my whole life, from baseball fans, to Dallas Market 5 radio on a top rated morning show and I have learned that the most important thing to do is just have fun and be yourself. Worrying about what an audience might think, or what your friends might talk about to each other when you are not around, is something you just can't afford to do. It is a hard thing to get down and takes time and practice, but if you never start you will never get past that hurdle.

I recently did an interview, I actually talked about it in my last post too, so Ellen Hedger..definitely the signs of a good interview when the person being interviewed is still talking about some of the topics discussed. While doing the interview after speaking about AAA Nursing Care, then Crusade Combat, we started talking about Crusade Coaching and our newly released book. The introduction was very positive for me, Ellen started by saying that she had downloaded it off from Amazon and that she was enjoying it and learning from it! Great...but she also added, "You know you are no Tolstoy, but it is good none the less!" lol

Now some people might have gasped or have been taken a back from that comment, but for me...she couldn't have hit the nail more on the head. She knew that I wasn't trying to be that prototypical author and or sales coach. I'm not, I'm not that guy, I avoid that type because all I get is the same thing that our generation has been spoon-fed our whole lives. I graduated with a PR/Comm degree from UTA, not English lit, or literature or even creative writing. I don't write for everyone, I really write for myself. I learn something every time I sit down in front of a computer and begin writing for you guys. I go over mistakes that I have made and even find other mistakes that I had made and didn't even realize until I was recanting the actual story.

Blogging, and writing for me is also a way to try and connect with new clients and or potential colleagues that I may help or receive help from in the future. Out of my 9100+ on here, about 5k are from the Dallas Fort Worth area where I live and work. Meaning each time I put something out there, I have the potential of reaching upwards to 25,000 people thru likes, comments, shares...word of mouth. I

You see I'm not trying to be anything other than me. I have been able to find security in myself and with my close friends and family that what ever negativity that may be spoken in regards to my choosing to put myself out in front of yet another audience, really just doesn't bother me at all. I actually appreciate the criticism more than people patting me on the back, because I can learn how to tweak my style and make a better format.

When it comes to blogging, or really anything that has peaked your interest enough for you to share it with friends and or a stranger....then really my best and most sound advice is to Get Started! You Can Do It! Do it for yourself, to improve yourself, to relieve anxiety, to learn, to communicate, and most importantly to start building up that self confidence so the next time you are thinking about doing something....you don't hesitate and lose steam and momentum!

You can always stop doing something, but you can't always start....if you wait to long in trying to make the perfect leap, you may miss out on the opportunity entirely. Have a great rest of your Wednesday!

Best regards,
