Get Rid of The “Crush It” Mentality Optimize for Joy Instead

The Lesson

Greetings from Troy,

I'm working with a consultant right now, and he mentioned this one thing that I found pretty critical.

We were talking about routines, going to the gym, eating right, etc. Being an entrepreneur sometimes is like training to be an athlete...

  • Workouts
  • Adequate Sleep
  • Managing Energy
  • Nutrition & Supplementation
  • Battling off Depression
  • Focusing on Recovery
  • Social Time

Doing all these things helps you stay on point so the demands of your business don’t crush you and eat you whole.

As we were talking, I mentioned that it's more important to me to get my 8 hours of rest than to wake up at 6 am every day ready to "CRUSH IT."

I usually go to bed between 11 pm and midnight, and wake up around 8-9 am. I set my alarm to say, "You will wake up in 8 hours from now."

For many, many years I went off 5-6 hours of sleep.

That was until my life came crashing down, and I didn't realize how massively a lack of sleep was affecting almost every area of my life.

I was...

  • Often Angry
  • Quite Depressive
  • Very Uninspired

He said, "I think you're on the right track, but while making sure everything else is buttoned up, make sure you're optimizing for joy instead of strictly productivity."

Through joy, flow and inspiration...

Productivity will come.

So, my question for you this week... Where can you optimize for Joy?

What is something you should do that will bring you a little more fulfillment and contentment. More on that in the homework section.

The Mission

Consultants want to experience life, they want to do things that most cant with people they love. They know that they can serve clients from inspired locations, and travel and see unique places that will inspire new ideas for clients, and themselves.

Internal Success started with the mindset of "Success is an Inside Job" the reality you create starts inside, and then becomes external.

Folks that read Internal Success, know they're responsible for their destiny.

The world has opposing forces that try and drag and pull us in various directions, and it's our responsibility to stay focused and to continue onward towards the path we choose and desire.

The Study

Quoted from The Atlantic Article: WHAT THE LONGEST STUDY ON HUMAN HAPPINESS FOUND IS THE KEY TO A GOOD LIFE

https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2017/04/over-nearly-80-years-harvard-study-has-been-showing-how-to-live-a-healthy-and-happy-life/

After starting with 724 participants—boys from disadvantaged and troubled families in Boston, and Harvard undergraduates—the study incorporated the spouses of the original men and, more recently, more than 1,300 descendants of the initial group.

Researchers periodically interview participants, ask them to fill out questionnaires, and collect information about their physical health. As the study’s director (Bob) and associate director (Marc), we’ve been able to watch participants fall in and out of relationships, find success and failure at their jobs, become mothers and fathers.

It’s the longest in-depth longitudinal study on human life ever done, and it’s brought us to a simple and profound conclusion:

Good relationships lead to health and happiness.

The trick is that those relationships must be nurtured.

The Homework

After reading the lesson above and checking out the study. Two ingredients are apparent.

Good relationships nurtured, give us more joy overall.

Folks that care for us, and our well being is pretty dang important. Focusing on routines that bring you happiness, personally, professionally and spiritually are key

  1. Find some way to optimize your routine for joy, what can you either REMOVE or ADD to your day to day?
  2. What relationships that are close to you currently, or what new relationships can you invest in that will bring you further along in life?

None of it is easy, and it takes work just like everything else.

On your side,

Troy Assoignon

P.S. I've put together a small group of folks I'm working 1:1 with to help them land bigger deals, dial in their offers and their positioning so they can sell more projects and work with clients they love. If you have 3-5 clients and you're looking for the next level, this is for you.

And just like training to be an athlete, you’re not meant to go at it alone. We all need coaches for that outside, expert perspective to make us better. ??

Dude, right there with you. I prided myself on 5-6 hours of sleep. I can still do it and need to at times, but now I am much more intentional about getting 7-8 hours of sleep.
