As the trend cycle has accelerated, a sneaker’s “it” status has become more short-lived: The dad sneaker gave way to the Samba, which —?according to the spring 2025 runways and beyond —?will soon hand over the reins to the 1980s-beloved high-top.

On the Paris Fashion Week runways over the last week, Jonathan Anderson showed at least four high-top styles on the Loewe runway, including a maroon and mint pair styled with a long hoop dress. Chemena Kamali also debuted a pair of high-tops, for Chloe, which anchored a billow-sleeve trench worn over a lingerie-look playsuit. And Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri appeared to be on the high-top train, but her sneakers were actually low-tops paired with lace-up knee-high gaiters, according to reports.?

The trend has slowly been emerging for months. For example, during the men’s spring 2025 shows in June, Grace Wales Bonner introduced high-top Superstars in two colorways as part of an Adidas collaboration. Gwyneth Paltrow was just spotted at PFW wearing JW Anderson high-tops. And Isabel Marant’s wedge Bekett sneaker, relaunched in 2021, recently began gaining traction.

The big sneaker brands are clearly on board: In March, Nike Inc. fueled buzz around the opening of Jordan Brand’s first World Of Flight storefront in China with the launch of a store-exclusive $975 high-top dubbed the Jordan 1 High Wings “Phantom.” And, at Atmos Tokyo, Adidas just re-released high- and low-top iterations of its Jabbar sneaker, first created in the ‘70s with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

With nostalgia continuing to drive sales, it seems streetwear and luxury aren’t on the outs, after all.?Will
