Get The Power of Victory: Celebrating Surviving

October 8 represents the day I became aware that I had survived the most challenging battle of my entire life. That was the day I came out of a 15-day coma. According to the medical staff, after driving myself to the emergency room, they were checking me into a hold place for those testing positive for CoVid and suddenly I stopped breathing. They place me in a coma and ran tests to see how they could best conquer the disease that had taken control of my body.

Surviving a catastrophic event, like my battle with COVID-19's Delta variant in 2021, reshapes every part of you—physically, mentally, and emotionally. When the annual day comes around, it's often met with unexpected reoccurrences. I can tell you from my own experience, these anniversaries have a way of pulling you back into memories of the trauma, sometimes making you relive the battle, whether you're ready for it or not.

But instead of letting those moments become a burden, there are ways to take control of your journey and turn the anniversary of survival into a celebration of resilience. Here are five ways to honor your victory:

1. Reflect with Gratitude

Each year that passes is a testament to your strength and perseverance. Use this time to reflect on how far you've come, embracing gratitude for the second chance you've been given. Journaling or meditating can help process your feelings and remind you of the victories, large and small.

2. Celebrate Your Body’s Resilience

Our bodies go through unimaginable stress during recovery, and it's easy to focus on the scars rather than the healing. Celebrate your body by engaging in activities that make you feel alive—whether that’s going for a walk, dancing, or pampering yourself with a spa day. Show your body some love for all it endured.

3. Strengthen Your Mind

Surviving trauma can affect your mindset, causing anxiety or even PTSD. Take the anniversary as an opportunity to strengthen your mind with positive reinforcement. Try reading motivational books, attending therapy sessions, or engaging in mindfulness exercises. It’s about rebuilding your mental fortitude, just as you did physically.

4. Uplift Your Soul

The spiritual aftermath of survival is profound. Often, it forces a deeper connection to life’s purpose. Take time on your survival anniversary to feed your soul—whether through prayer, spending time in nature, or connecting with loved ones. These moments help you regain balance and renew your inner peace.

5. Share Your Story

Sharing your survival story with others is a powerful way to celebrate and inspire. Whether through social media, a blog, or personal conversations, your story can be a beacon of hope for those still in the trenches of their own battles. Your victory might just be the encouragement someone else needs to keep fighting.

The Benefits of Sharing Your Story

Survival anniversaries don’t have to bring you down—they can be milestones of triumph. Embrace the changes that come with surviving. Celebrate your mind, body, and soul for the incredible journey they've endured. Remember, every anniversary marks another year of being unstoppable.

Here’s to the survivors, to the fighters, and to the ones who will never give up. Your victory deserves to be celebrated. So, I just wanted to remind you and me that in spite of the trauma, we are still here. Stay blessed.
