Get outside, get active, feel better.
As you may know, last week was #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek. The theme for this year was “Movement: Moving more for our mental health,” but getting active can sometimes be a challenge if access to green spaces is limited, and safe walking, wheeling and cycling routes are not available.?
In this newsletter, we’d like to share our latest two podcast episodes, both of which link to this theme.??
Taking To The Street?
"I didn't want it to be my children's lives or anyone else's children's lives that would fall victim to that carnage outside the school."
In this episode, we meet James Lucas , a father and keen cyclist who wanted his children to be able to travel to school by bike safely. James worked with a group of other parents, the Headteacher at the school, with his local council Norfolk County Council , and with charity Sustrans to implement a School Street programme. Listen, to hear how this brilliant initiative is helping more children choose active ways to get to school, and the impressive impacts of this on health and wellbeing and on air quality.?

Returning To Our Trees?
"There is so much more to be gained by being out in nature. We know that it reduces anxiety. We know that being in fresh air is better for you. We know that pollution is linked with suicide and living in polluted environments is not good for your mental health."
In this episode, we learn how spending time outdoors, growing food and caring for wildlife has?profound mental health benefits. We meet Janis Werrett Director of Cynon Valley Organic Adventures in Wales, and learn about green social prescribing from her, fellow director and academic Dr Andrew Cuthbert drew and GP Dr Sarah Williams. We speak to former volunteer Mike Jenkins about the transformation he has felt through participating in the project, and we discover the potential for more people to get involved with similar initiatives elsewhere, as an alternative or complimentary option to medication or traditional therapy.?
Coming up...?
