Get Out of Your Way

Get Out of Your Way

“It’s time to broaden the vision.”

It’s a conversation Marty Nocchi and I had a few months back as to how we move forward as a business.

It came after a rather tumultuous year for me in becoming a father for the first time as well as moving cross country, literally facing so many unknowns all at one time.

It seemed only natural, despite it all, that even on the business end, I would experience change, and big change at that.

For the past several months we’ve had in-depth conversations about what all of this would look like and how we can grow a business which pulls together all of our strengths and serving people to our fullest potential.

It’s been clear that, more than anything, we needed to get out of our own way.

Now I had already locked in “Get Out of Your Own Way” as a coaching business long before any of these conversations.

I suppose you could say it spoke to me long before it actually spoke to me in real time.

If you want a clear indicator of what it means to be in your own way, think back on the times in your life when your world simply felt too small, felt cornered and trapped, and at times felt like there was no way out.

It’s you in your own way.

Both Marty and I have been there.? He spent nearly 15 years of his life trying to convince himself to stay in the confines of institutional living as a catholic priest before being pushed out of his own way.

Differently and yet the same, I found myself cornered much of the past year, not sure how my life was going to play out being in a rocky relationship, an expectant father, and a transplant to Arizona, along with a business which wasn’t growing as I had hoped.

Both of us felt trapped.? Both of us were in our own way.? Both of us understand how we got there and the steps necessary to “get out”.

It became clear as time went on that this was the direction we were moving, recognizing just how easy it is to get in our own way, individually as well as in the workplace.

“Get Out of Your Own Way” is near and dear.

From limiting beliefs, not taking responsibility and choosing to be a victim, consistently choosing fear, and all or nothing thinking, there are countless ways of getting in your own way.

The stories you tell yourself create lifelong patterns and a strong belief that “this is just the way I am”.

Untrue.

It’s you when you live without intention.? It’s you, even if subconsciously, choosing to remain in your own way.

So much of it takes root from a very early age by giving meaning to various situations and circumstances in life which get fed over and over.

Before you know it, you’re trapped.? You’re in your own way.??

“It’s time to broaden the vision.”

There we were, late summer, dust settling, heat on the rise, stuck in a cycle which no longer served, both individually and collectively.

Change was going to happen, and we weren’t going to allow fear to stop the process.

“Get Out of Your Own Way” began to seem more real and possible.? It was giving context to so many of the other projects being worked on and clarity on how I often thwarted things by getting in the way.

Have you been there?

If you’re an entrepreneur or have this particular mindset, more than likely, yes.

You probably have tried to do it all yourself.

You had trouble delegating or asking others to help.

When it is so close to you, it’s hard to imagine having someone else step in and do things differently.

Yet, it’s the only way.

It’s the way to empower the people around you who are often waiting for you to step out of your way and allow them to utilize their gifts more fully.

A leader’s nightmare is believing it all falls on you.

Sure, much of it does and the “buck stops with you”; all of that is completely understandable.??

Here’s the cold hard truth.

What you perceive as being most important and left solely to you can also be how you’re getting in your own way.

Over and over again, it comes back to you.? You are the common denominator of your own story and it’s you who will consistently get in your way.? You’ll get locked in your mind and overthink everything.

“Get Out of Your Own Way” acts as a guide in finding your true value which has much more about getting out of the way than it does about trying to control all the moving parts.

It just does.

Whether this is in your personal life or in your business world, having someone who can be objective in your life will help you to avoid this common mishap of getting in your own way.

It’s time to broaden the vision.

You aren’t even able to imagine just what’s possible in this moment because you aren’t able to see what others can, what we’re able to see for you.

Don’t you owe it to yourself?

How about the people around you?

For a moment, imagine yourself totally out of your way and asking, “what’s really possible in my life?”.??

It’s time to even broaden that!

Get Out of Your Own Way will do just as we say, get you out of your way so you can become the “more” you want out of life!

I've started smiling at myself in the mirror every morning and saying "I love you" to myself 100 times, counting it out on my fingers. It seemed childish at first. But every day I feel more peaceful and centered. Clearer in my mind. I stopped caring that it felt childish or the other related failures in communication because the weight of the self love was gradually becoming greater than the doubts and the feelings of self-loathing. It isn't a shortcut. There are none. It's just a start. Changing the internal perspective still traps us in that one perspective. It's from bonding with other people that we learn what we are, social beings. Great post Aaron! Looking forward to seeing more from you.
