Get out the office!
At times I feel shackled to my emails and desk. The proximity feels "necessary"...like it's the only way to measure results and HARD work.
This week I had a couple of 'out of the office' days - which in all honesty always feel very indulgent (...not I-am-getting-my-nails-done indulgent, but that I wasn't knee-deep-in-a-spreadsheet indulgent...)
The event I attended mid-week I also spoke at. It was a morning of interesting workshops and meeting people. I only actually spoke to a handful of people out of the room-filled potential of new connections... (please, please, can we have more women at these events!)
It wasn't until I was back in the office the next day and an opportunity arose, that I passed one of the business cards to my Head of Commercial & Sales, and his response after the phone call to the contact was... "Becks, you need to get out of the office more!"
Turns out, the brief encounter could turn into a commercial collaborative new business relationship. Who knew!
I am not always one to do what I am told... but I am now more committed to taking 'time out' of the office. It is necessary, not just for business owners, but for my team too. It is not time wasted, it can be time invested.
The moral of the story... I need to come up with innovative and entertaining 'Out of the Office' auto-responses.
