Issue 14?!!!
I haven't stuck to something this long since the great sewing machine incident of '15.
Actually, on that... in the first year of secondary school (much longer ago than '15), we had a "textiles" lesson where we were taught how to use sewing machines. I'll never forget the ridiculously calm... "Miss, the needle has gone through my finger nail". I looked across to the desk next to me and sure enough, the girl I sat with had pushed her finger underneath the piledriving needle. Straight through. Dang.
On with the update, soz.
VO Social Kent
You may remember me mentioning a while back that I'm heading up The Voiceover Social Kent chapter. (I used the word "chapter" because Sons of Anarchy is great).
Well, the first event is confirmed.
On Tuesday 18th March at 7pm, I'll be waiting at The Foundry in Canterbury for someone to turn up. Don't let me down! (It's free. It's in a bar. Pub. I don't know, I've never been).
Thank you to Serena Sykes and Aaron Reeves who've promised me that I won't be a loner on the night.
Award nomination
It's that time of year again, when your timeline is flooded with voice actors all talking about being nominated for an award.
So, I'm going to do it too.
I've been nominated for an award.
I've been nominated for an award.
I've been nominated for an award.
I've been nominated for an award.
I've been nominated for an award.
The category is "Demo Reels - Best Male Performance".
The reason I'm chuffed about this is two-fold.
? Being recognised for my performance says the hard work was worth it. Regular training with RichCraft Voiceover Coaching, Reels & More has paid off. The full list of nominees is stacked with true industry greats and I feel like a small child, excited to be part of something.
? I produced the reel. Means it must sound ok too. Cheers.
Big jobs
Not my words, the words of Rik Mayall in an episode of The Young Ones.
Last week I took on something that I don't usually get involved with - a project that is longer than 2 minutes.
It's not that I can't do them. It's that I don't find them as fun as the short form stuff.
But whatever, I said yes and then sat in the booth for 2 hours. Two hours of solid voicing.
The best thing about this is that I didn't lose my voice. I've always been paranoid that longer pieces will ruin me, but it seems I do have the stamina after all.
Up next, audiobooks!*
*No.
Old
Something else that stood out in the past month was a chance to work on a project of real importance. A short film recounting a lesser known event from World War 1.
It was an opportunity to go old school, like the clip below, narrating some genuine newspaper clippings from 1916. I'll be sure to share that when it's out.
VALUE
The value I'm providing you in this newsletter is that I'm not keeping you for too long. You don't need to thank me, I'm happy to do that for you. Yes, you.
