"Get Out of Jail Free" Card

Intentional leadership development for high performing teams and individuals
Many times, we feel stuck with our current reality. Lots of things can potentially get in our way - barriers, obstacles, or gaps. If you really dig in, there are very few times we have no options to move forward. What if I could offer you a “Get out of jail free” card? Read on…
Consider a current issue you’re dealing with where there appears to be no natural next step. Now, what’s keeping you from moving forward? Is it an obstacle or barrier placed on you by an external force or is it possible you’ve just gotten in your own way?
If it’s an external force, we’ll call that a Prohibition. If it’s a barrier you’ve created for yourself, we’ll call that Inhibition. While there are certainly valid Prohibitions we need to heed, we might be putting more things in that category than necessary. How many times have you said to yourself or others, “They won’t let us do that.” Who exactly is “they”? Have you asked them or have you made an assumption based on your own filters?

Too often we’ve made our own Inhibitions into Prohibitions. I have often told those I work with not to answer for someone else. Go and ask. Get to the bottom of the data. Information is your friend. You might find out that “they” is just you!
When you do find you have a legitimate Prohibition, it’s still not the end of the story. Consider whether you’re facing a barrier, hurdle, or gap. Each requires a different next step.
Barriers are things you can’t change but there may be someone who can. Hurdles are things you have to overcome and gaps are areas you need to fill in before moving on.
Let me help you build a plan to take the next step. Use your “Get out of jail free” card and schedule a complementary Discovery Call here. Who says you can’t?

2 年Excellent breakdown of the Giant (Prohibition) that we give so much power too. Doug, your article give's me Hope that perhaps the obstacle/barrier is more of a self induced trip & fall accident, rather than the Giant I tend to back away from. Thanks
