"Get Off Your Ask and Watch Your Business Grow"

Have you ever been frustrated because you did not get what you want? It happens all the time but the thing most of us forget is to "Get off our Ask". Yes, ask for what you want. One of the best ways to do this is saying four simple little words --- I NEED YOUR HELP --.
The worst that can happen is that someone says no. At least you know where you stand, and you can ask someone else. After all, the word NO is only the word ON backwards. At least that is what my 28-year-old daughter said when I asked her at age 5 if she knew what the word NO meant. Taking No for an answer simply opens the door to more people saying yes. It takes GETTING OFF YOUR ASK to get the yes you want.
I recently asked a connection and colleague who paid me a high compliment about how his LinkedIn connections have grown since he heard me speak if he would provide me with a video testimonial/recommendation. He said that he was not great with video but would be happy to write a written recommendation. I got a "no" to a video testimonial, but I got a YES to what I wanted - a testimonial - The next day, this is what I received in my email because I got off my ask.

How many times has someone paid you a compliment, but you did not get off your "ask" for something to document that great third party endorsement and put it on your LinkedIn profile, your website or in your social media? Next time this happens, just ASK.
In the past, when someone would say something nice about my work, I used to take out my phone and say - Can I record that? My kids don't often say anything nice (not so true anymore) and I would appreciate if you let me record you saying those great compliments with my phone. I will put it on my LinkedIn profile and make sure that if you want, to include your information so that those people who see it might want to visit your profile and learn more about you. A true win/win.
It comes down to the power of intention and the ability to just "ask" for what you want. Create win/wins for everyone. Make it your intention to ask others how you can help them. Just ask. Asking for what you want or need is great, but what is even more rewarding is asking someone you are connected to what you can do for them. This can be magical. Ask someone how you can be a resource for them and just listen.

Ask the people who are making great connections and growing their business on LinkedIn what they are doing to get the great results my clients get. My guess is they will tell you that it ALWAYS starts with serving - not selling and Asking for the connection.
