Get More Done By Doing Less
What distracts an entrepreneur from building their business? Entrepreneurs have about a million things to do. There’s always something — social media, networking, tracking finances, working with clients, getting new clients, learning software and the list goes on.
Just thinking about everything that you have to do can be overwhelming. You may think:
It seems that when you finish one item on your to-do list, you have to add two more. It can be exhausting. One thing that I notice with entrepreneurs — it’s easy to get bogged down into the daily “busy-ness” of it all.
Sometimes you get distracted with things that don’t really grow your business. You look up at the end of a long day and ask “What did I?actually?get done?”. Or “I only finished some of what I needed to do, and I’ve got to catch up on everything tomorrow”.
If you can relate to any of that, you’re in good company because most entrepreneurs struggle with this everyday.
That's what prompted me to write this article. I want to share some of what I’ve learned in my extensive work with entrepreneurs. I see these challenges come up often, and I don’t want these things to hold you back.
So let’s jump into three key mistakes entrepreneurs make that keep them from prioritizing what’s most important:
#1 -?They focus on the wrong things that don’t grow their business.
This one seems simple, but with the world virtually at our fingertips, entrepreneurs are bombarded with distractions.
Everything from news notifications to ads to instant messages that pop up as you try to stay focused.
There’s always something out there that can take you off your game, get you off track and waste days, weeks or months of your precious time (and have nothing to show for it).

#2 -?They don’t have a solid plan of action steps.
This one is a bit tricky. When I say “plan of action steps”, people automatically think of a to-do list.
What I mean is a practical plan that motivates you because it’s tailored to the limited time that you have and has a?simple strategy?that gets you real results.
If you don't have a laser focus on why you're doing a particular task and understand the benefits of doing it, you can fill your schedule up with cool or creative things that don't really move the needle forward in your business.
#3 -?They don’t have boundaries around their business and their life.
Have you ever eaten taffy? When I talk to entrepreneurs about their busy schedules, I think of a taffy bar being pulled in different directions.
What many of these entrepreneurs fail to do is put boundaries in place to balance what's most important to them?— grow their business, have a happy personal life, stay healthy and have freedom to do?what they want?when they want.
These are three of the top challenges that I see entrepreneurs struggle with. Remember to develop a simple plan to focus on the right things in your business and also allows time for your personal commitments, health and peace of mind.
One way to help you do this is accountability. It’s reported that “65% of completing a goal is if you commit to someone”. Having someone that you check in with can motivate you much more than just holding yourself accountable.

Conclusion: Entrepreneurs have so much on their plate. Develop a plan that aligns with the overall strategy of your business and realistically takes into account the time that you really have in your schedule. When you take that approach, you can easily eliminate or greatly reduce distractions that take you off track (no matter how exciting or promising they can seem) and put boundaries around the most important parts of your life so that you can build your business and still enjoy health, family and balance in your life.
