There is a story of a farmer that decided to go into the diamond business.?
His farm was doing really well but around this time, people were discovering diamonds on their farms and making fortunes.?
This farmer got discontent and decided that he also wanted to get a fortune from mining diamonds. So he sold his land and went on a quest to find land filled with diamonds.?
He searched and searched everywhere but it seemed there were no more diamonds.?
Meanwhile, the person he had sold his land to was walking about in the field one day and passed by the river, only to see something shiny at the riverbed.?
On further inspection months later, he realized that what he had found was a diamond. Not only that, but there was a lot more on the field.
The farmer had lost out on his field and the diamonds that were already there.?
I have heard a lot of lessons from this story; be content, be happy where you are, and they are all valuable lessons.?
What I have learnt the most from this story, however, is the power of knowledge.
Contentment is very important. I also believe it’s important to want to better yourself. Where the farmer went wrong, I believe, is in jumping the gun.
He was so quick to move on to the next thing that he did not get all the information he needed.?
If he had gotten proper information about how diamonds look and where they could be found, he would have noticed that he had what he was looking for in abundance.?
I understand this farmer, and the truth is, I don’t blame him. We humans do this a lot. We constantly believe that the grass is greener on the other side.?
We admire others without fully knowing what they have to do to get to where they are.?
