Get to know Nick Hall: Account Manager at BT Wholesale

At BT Wholesale, our team is composed of a range of incredible individuals who all contribute to making it a unique and exciting place to work. In our ‘Get to Know’ blog series we champion a member of our team and learn more about their role and who they are.

In our latest blog we talk to Nick Hall , about his position, why LGBTQ+ visibility in tech is so important, and what makes him tick outside of work.

What is your role at BT?

As an Account Manager in the major accounts team, I lead the relationship between BT Wholesale and some of our largest customers. This involves managing a vast network of internal stakeholders, to ensure we give a seamless experience to our customers, so they can onward service theirs.

As well as my main role, I am also a part of a BT Group leadership programme that identifies high performing managers with the potential to be future directors of the business. Through the programme, I can access national leadership events, training, and mentorship from senior leaders, to support my career development.

My passion is diversity and inclusion (D&I), it gives me purpose at work, and it’s the reason I sit on the BT Group pride committee. I am an active ally for all our people networks across BT Group and collaborate with my customers on D&I initiatives in their businesses. My mission is to promote greater diversity in tech, particularly visibility of LGBTQ+ people in leadership roles. We need a broader range of mindsets, thought processes and perspectives to evolve technology, we need to attract the most diverse talent going forward to achieve that. To retain people, our cultures must be completely inclusive. At BT we aim to achieve this by prioritising diversity and inclusion just as much as we do any other critical strategic objective. Ultimately, we want our people to be able to come to work as their authentic selves and thrive in our inclusive culture.

What is the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is definitely the people, I love to manage relationships and create great experiences for customers. I am privileged to work with some very talented colleagues and customers, from whom I get to learn from all the time. As my career has progressed, I have a greater desire to share my skills, so I am really enjoying managing and mentoring people as I feel a sense of reward from watching these individuals grow and achieve great things.

What has been your proudest moment at work?

I’m proud to have founded BT’s leadership initiative, “Leading with Pride”. This is a mentoring programme to give career development opportunities to LGBTQ+ people and allies, provide reverse mentorship and to promote the visibility of these people in leadership positions. By promoting our LGBTQ+ leaders we will ultimately create role models, who will inevitably inspire a future generation of leaders at BT and beyond, hopefully removing any perception of a glass ceiling.

What do you do outside of work?

I love to travel. I enjoy experiencing different cultures and switching off from work. At home, fitness and wellbeing are really important to me because investing in them helps me to be more resilient and have greater self-awareness. I enjoy practicing yoga and meditation, weight training and cardio at the gym, and going on walks with my dog.

Another big passion of mine is property, I’ve flipped a number of houses and set up my own estate agent business, which I built up and have since sold. I love the creative side of property and finding diamonds in the rough too.
