I’m excited to share that on August 28th, my nonprofit, H.O.P.E., Inc., will once again participate in Give 8/28.?
What is Give 8/28?
Give 8/28 began in 2018 with a vision from the Young, Black, and Giving Back (YBGB) Institute founder, Ebonie Johnson Cooper, to have a giving day dedicated to grassroots, Black nonprofits. As H.O.P.E., Inc. is a primarily Black-led and Black-serving organization, we are honored to join this collective effort which in 2020 helped 470 nonprofits raise more the $250,000. Give 8/28 builds on the momentum created by August’s Black Philanthropy Month, with one concentrated day of giving to Black nonprofits.?
What is significant about August 28th?
Numerous events that impacted and shaped the Black experience occurred on August 28th?– from the 1955 brutal murder of Emmett Till, to Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech, to then-Senator Barack Obama’s 2008 acceptance of the Democratic nomination for president.?
This year’s Give 8/28 day focuses on education; exactly what H.O.P.E., Inc. promotes! We help families break the cycle of poverty by empowering, encouraging and equipping low-income single parents to obtain a college degree, develop essential life skills, and ultimately become self-sufficient. I invite you to learn more about our impact on our Black community by visiting our Give 8/28 campaign page at?https://www.give828.org/story/0bp7fg .
We look forward to earning your support this August 28th, “…because Black giving is Magic!”
