Get in the Groove: Using Music on Social Media

While social media offers multiple ways to connect with your audience (including popular music and sound effects), adding your favorite tune to your content could land you in hot water if you don’t know the rules.

Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube offer libraries of pre-cleared, royalty-free music. While this is the simplest and safest option, these songs are not the latest, trending hits that may perfectly complement your post or maximize impressions.

But using copyrighted music without the proper license or permission is risky. A “fair use” argument does not apply to content used for a commercial purpose. If caught infringing, you could face costly fines or settlements and/or negative publicity. If you are unable to obtain permission for that perfect song, the best strategy is to rely on the commercial libraries of your favorite sites:

Instagram & Facebook: Sound Collection

TikTok:? Commercial Music Library: Pre-cleared Music For Organic Content

YouTube: www.youtube.com/audiolibrary ?
