Christmas 2020
So, like thousands of other people, I did it! I spent Christmas 2020 eating and drinking too much. In defence of all of us, we had the thought of moving into yet another lockdown hanging over us like a zeppelin and this was potentially our last hurrah before being told we couldn't go out and indulge in the usual January retail therapy which helps us get over the fact that we have just had a crap year!
When talking to the Mousetrapper team about what I was going to do with them on Linkedin during January, I suddenly became very aware that underneath the name Mousetrapper on their logo their was a strap line that read 'The Wellness Mouse'. Now, it doesn't always follow that as an evangelist for any particular cause you have to be the absolute embodiment of the message but it did set me wondering if, at very least I shouldn't take on board my own advice to others and ditch the alcohol and sugar in January and instead embark on a better routine that includes at least some exercise a day.
The problem I have with many people that preach about getting fit is...
- They clearly have one of those metabolisms that means they can eat what they like and never look like they have an inflatable from a swimming pool permanently attached to their middle...or
- They have plenty of time to exercise and I know this is true as they seemingly manage to do a half marathon, 5 gym sessions and various sports in one week.
Now I look at people like this and think...good on you BUT ....
At 49 with 5 kids, it is my well earn't right to not eat healthily all the time and have the odd drink as I need it to survive the week and I run a business at the same time as playing taxi, teacher, doing the ironing, much of the cooking ...the list goes on. So I don't have time for all that exercise.
Sound familiar? Well if it does then I hope I can motivate you to do what I am doing which is just to do...a bit. You see, a bit more than you were doing is better than nothing, and it all adds up (sounds like a supermarket slogan).
I am currently walking every day. Not far, not for long but everyday. I can feel the difference. I have more energy, I'm losing a bit (not a lot but a bit) of weight and I feel happier.
So join me in the Mousetrapper motivation challenge for January and do a little bit each day. I promise it won't help.
